Snakes aren't my thing, I'll grab one and move it out of an area if I know it's not poisonous, but even then I still don't trust the little jerks.

I enjoyed seeing these pictures, especially the one of the fat black snake sleenking into the sunset!

Most people get hurt around snakes by freaking out and running away. They hurt themselves from whatever injury befalls them getting AWAY from the snake, not the snake itself. Snakes are a lot like bees in that if you leave them alone, generally they will do the same.

They're not venonmous.

I think they're widely spread throughout Kentucky, but not sure.

They do get big. I saw some on our golf course this summer that looked to be 6, maybe 7 feet long.

 

I've heard all my life that they will kill copperheads and rattlesnakes, but this is the first time I've seen photo proof. I think they kill their prey by constriction...a smaller version of a boa.

 

If you are talking about Sag Hollow in Booneville I, too have seen a couple large black snakes. I seen one in the woods on the right side of fairway 2. It actually jumped up and scared the crap out of me and my buddy. I guess if i could keep it in the fairway I would have been out of harms way! LOL!

Seriously though, that's neat, but I can't fathom getting close enough to a snake to take those pictures. I'm terrified of the things.

That's the course. We have a lot of black snakes, and unfortunately a few copperheads. I never bother the black snakes (except one I accidently ran over with my van coming into the course), but copperheads are another story.

That definitely isn't a Timber Rattler or Eastern Diamondback. I'm almost sure it is a Western Diamondback because of the zebra like pattern at the end of its tail.

I was thinking the same thing. But wasn't positive so I didnt say anything. I love snakes. My friend has several rattlers, copperheads, ball pythons, etc.

Last spring I saw a gigantic black snake (at least 4 feet) in my front yard. The thing about scared the heck out of me.

Very cool pic's. We had a black snake out in our wood pile a few years ago. I don't know what happen to it or where it went.
