I think 4 for Stevenson is low... he had that one putback layup in, one catch and shoot 2, and one 3... That I remember. So I've got him at at least 7.

 

Stevenson had 9 according to the scoreboard at Rupp.

I'm glad Miller had a good game.

Harrelson still has a little work finishing around the basket but the kid looks good and I think he could really be a huge key to this team. Everyone knows Patterson can produce and a healthy Meeks is dangerous. However, UK needs that third and fourth options and right now I think Harrelson is definately making a claim as a key sixth or seventh man.

 

Definately want to see UK against a bit taller team, I was at the game and you could tell that our big men seemed confused at times as to who they should guard because their big men were the same height as the guards.

 

The Cats have work to do, but I was overall happy with tonight. The team looked energetic, long, and ready to play D. The young guys looked like they will give some much needed production and of course PP and Jodie are firing on all cylinders.

Josh Harrellson is so quick to shoot it when he has it... it's all just one constant motion.

 

He'll be a fan favorite.

I liked what I saw, the talent level is already much improved. I like what I saw from Harris, he was aggressive going to the hoop, bad thing is he can't shoot from the line to save his life. I must say that I wish Meeks would be a little less shy on offense, the guy passes up way too many shots.

:thumb: iagree here as well, this U.L. team still has a long way to go imo but they are also going to suprise a lot of people.

Patrick Patterson is going to be one of the best players in college basketball. At this point, I'm a little unsure as to how he projects in the NBA, but I have no doubt about his ability to dominate in the college ranks.

 

Everybody has been talking about how Jodie Meeks is going to have a big year. I think he will explode too, if he can stay healthy. And I think it was clear tonight that he thought the same. It looked like he was trying to do a little too much on the offensive end. Some of that could be attributed to being one of the leaders on this year team, and it being his 1st game in a while. I think he'll settle down and have a big year. He ended up having a nice game again tonight.

 

Darius Miller looked great. He knocked down a few outside shots, played solid defense and rebounded well. Coudn't have asked for a better debut.

 

Harrellson is going to be just what the doctor ordered. Last year it was obvious who the ball was going to -- Patterson was going to get it. Perry Stevenson passed up shot after shot from the elbow for the majority of the year. While Stevenson came around towards the end when Patterson went down, I think we'll be a lot better off with Harrellson. If he can shoot as well as he did tonight, the high low offense that Billy G loves will get much more dangerous with a Patterson / Harrelson combo. Very good performance by Harrelson.

 

Ramon Harris & Michael Porter both looked better. Harris played limited minutes before getting treatment on the bench. He isn't going to put up huge numbers each night, but I think he adds some toughness and is one of our best defenders. I think he'll play a big role this year as well.

 

All in all, couldn't have asked for a better season opener. It was not against a great team, but holding a team to 53 points is impressive. So it putting up 111. Add them together, and I couldn't imagine a better start to what I think is going to be a great year of Kentucky basketball!

MO-SL was not very good. They were without their leading scorer and the biggest post player.

Three things that I will take from this game:

1. They really pushed the ball in transition, be it off the glass, made baskets, turnovers...really used the pass to move the ball in transition. A far cry from the dribbling of Bradley and Crawford.

2. Much more athletic than the last few years. These guys have done their work in the weightroom. They are long and active. Should improve production on both ends of the floor.

3. Passing. Granted the competition was inferior, but I liked the way they moved the ball. The ball didn't die in players hands.

Toug to get a real gauge because of the competition, but the above stood out to me.

 

Before we get real giddy on Porter, they faced a zone so he was not pressured.

Darius Miller just has a high basketball IQ. He finds the ball in traffic...always around it. He showed me much more tonight than I had anticipated.

Harrellson showed nice range tonight...he will be a nice addition in the high post. Teams will have to play him straight up in the high post and release pressure off of Patterson on the block.

I liked what I saw as well. These pre-season games are for coaches to get a feel of how the team plays against another instead of each other. Will these Cats play like this every game, I highly doubt it as the competition only gets stiffer. But as long as everyone can stay healthy, I like their chances.

I turned on the game with about 10 minutes to go and Kentucky was up by 210 points. :lol:

 

So it's difficult to take anything away from this game, BUT if the Cats can continue to go 9 or 10 deep on that bench, they are going to be really tough to beat.

 

We all know that the injuries hampered this team last year and BG still had them ready to play and we saw them truly "gut out" a tournament berth. Just imagine how good this team might be if they have depth.

 

This board will be fun to watch if they play well out of the gate.

Great way for him to start his career at UK. Always glad to see all of our 10th region atheletes do well at the next level.:thumb:
