Unfortunately, low gas prices will take the pressure off Congressional Democrats to open up more American oil reserves to drilling. Four years from now we will still be hearing liberals claiming that new drilling would not put additional oil on the market for 10 years. We can throw blame or credit around all over, but I don't think that Bush, Congress or the Senate are to blame or give credit to directly. Since Jimmy Carter, no president or legislator has done anything to move us towards energy independence. Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush Jr all could have done something, but neither they or the legislators did not do anything to head this off for the past 25 years.

 

As far as why they came down, it really was the American people. With more people driving now than 1 year ago, our consumption was way down from this time last year. More people are learning to conserve and OPEC got the message. I just hope that whomever elected doesn't get lax due to prices dropping and actually does what they say they are going to do to move us forward.

RTS I know you are a McCain supporter, but I was wondering if you are a Bush supporter?

Last week, I heard oil countries say they are practically losing money at current declining oil prices. Today I heard gas companies claim that they are close to losing money at current gas prices.

 

Who do these idiots think we are? Sure they won't make they record profits they are making lately, but they weren't exactly suffering over the last 100 years.

The decline in oil prices can be attributed to a combination of the drop in demand AND an incredible decrease in the amount of speculation in the markets at the current time. The greatest threat we face in regards to prices increasing again (at least currently) is a decision by OPEC to cut production in order to get the price back up.

From what I understand, it has dropped around 5%. But I am unsure what world demand has done.

 

Then again, it probably all has to do with the strength of the dollar.
