Why not upgrade the non-district portion of your schedule instead of moving up to 4A? I know Johnson Central would love to get a series going with Russell.Other teams I'm sure would be interested are Ironton and Wheelersburg.

That has been discussed over and over several times in years past. I must say though that I have not heard anything about that in well over 30-35 years or more and it was shot down then and every time it has been mentioned before or since. JMO but that will never happen.

Who are the other "4A powers"? North Bullitt, Lone Oak, Harrison County, and Warren East? :lol:

 

Of that list LexCath and Bell would definately be favored most years over Russell... but Rockcastle has dropped off drastically in the past few seasons and Boyle, IMO, would not have been able to defeat Russell for sure in '05 and '06, and I am not entirely convinced they were much better than them last season.

With all due respect this is not a fair assessment. Boyle has been a shadow of themselves since the Chuck Smith era and have not really proven to be better equipped to make a run at a state title until this season.

Yeah, that's an easier road with NCC, Danville and a resurgent Ft Campbell program in the way.

That was only 3 seasons ago. This year has looked pretty promising with wins over Danville, Henry Clay, Lafayette, Mercer County and Lex Cath. With all due respect that shadow is gaining more substance every week.

Why should Russell move up? They have a better chance of winning a state title in 3A.

Boyle has not had 5 6 or 7 D1 players on their team at once... the closest they would have been would maybe be 4 in 2000 or 2001 with Travis Leffew, Brodie Overstreet and Jacob Tamme and Taylor Begley. BC has had 8 tops from 1999 to 2005. Bobby Leffew (Louisville), Travis Leffew (Louisville), Jacob Tamme (Kentucky), Brodie Overstreet (Wake Forest), Taylor Begley (Kentucky), Brad Cloud (WKU), Brandon Smith (WKU), Seth Tamme (WKU) and note that Western was I-AA at the time they recruited them.

I see no benefit in it. The only program they have to deal with that is on the level of Lexington Catholic or Bell is Belfry. Then add in Rockcastle and you got a job getting to the championship game. Don't forget about the other teams you would need to go through besides the three already mentioned. If they can get around Belfry in AAA, then all they need to worry about is if they have to play Central.
