October 8, 200818 yr McCain should have brought up the Ayers connection and he would have run off with the debate easily. I'm sure he didn't do this for a good reason. It would have only hurt him. People want to hear about the current issues not some "mudslinging" from a candidate.
October 8, 200818 yr He was trying to secure the Amish vote. It was a great move imo. Unfortunately, it was unlikely they were actually watching the debate on TV.
October 8, 200818 yr Maybe for the talk-radio crowd, but it likely would have sealed his doom. More info has come out of this research of the records released. This is more than guilt by association. Obama was more than friendly with Ayers...Ayers put him in charge of $50 million dollars for education handouts. The grant for this money specifically targeted students to teach them, not math and reading, but to radicalize them. It is explicitly written on the grant...."radicalize them"....Obama was in charge of the grant. Obama said education was his 3rd priority... His alliance and his role with Ayers regarding education is a winner for McCain. It goes beyond, bombings, it goes beyond guilt by association, it is a key link between work done together by Obama and Ayers on a grant to "radicalize" students, not to encourage their math or reading skills.

We already have a four page thread started for this chapter of fear mongering...this thread is about the debate. :irked:
October 8, 200818 yr Fear mongering? What you have done in your past has no consequences in this election particularly from an individual that people really don't know that well? OK...I will move on...brush it off as you may but this is likely to get more play. If it is fear-mongering, why is the Obama Camp trying to squash everything related to it and going after Stanley Kurtz?

October 8, 200818 yr They tested the waters with it over the summer and it didn't play. Just like the Wright stuff, it hurt it when it broke but he recovered quickly. It's damaging, but with the economy it's the least of most voters' concern and to bring it up in a debate is suicidal.

The info has been embargoed much of the summer...much of the info came out last Thursday, through research. Records requests were denied. It is a whole new game now. If it is suicidal for McCain, why is the Obama Camp trying to squash it, they should let him go down in flames. His spokesman on Hannity and Colmes tried to say Hannity was anti-semite.

It is suicidal in a debate, it may make for some decent advertisements. It's too late, though, to make any sort of push about education. The focus is on Ayers and it hasn't worked and it won't work. That's why Palin talks about Ayers with such ambiguity, begging for voters to draw a little different conclusion about Obama.
October 8, 200818 yr Thank you John McCain. I am very happy with the outcome of this debate, Obama nailed it in so many ways. McCain started to crack and his actions clearly showed that. By caliing Obama "that one" hopefully did the damage I believe it may have. My Wife, my Mother and my Father have all been undecided until tonight. As we were watching, my Mother said rewind about the same time my Wife did, and when we heard "that one" again, I believe it was at that moment they saw the light. They all are now voting for Obama. :dancingpa I really don't believe it will have that much of an effect around here, but around the Country it could of been the end for McCain. And as the results of the debate are rolling in, it sure looking like Obama is 2-0

October 8, 200818 yr McCain should have brought up the Ayers connection and he would have run off with the debate easily. While that is what the Sean Hannitys of the world would like to have heard, that is not what "Joe Six-Pack" wants to hear. I heard Hannity go through the typical laundry list on his radio show yesterday, saying that he would bring this association up, among others, as his debate strategy. All the while, I was thinking that would be a disaster if it played out that way. Right now the public wants answers about the economy and the war, not firing mud from all angles and hoping something sticks.

October 8, 200818 yr One thing was apparent last night, neither candidate knows or is willing to admit the limits to presidential power and neither one wants to answer a tough question.
