Presidental Debate #2

Featured Replies

Which issues do you not agree with, and what don't you agree with?

I have some issues with which I disagree with Obama, but there are some very issues on which I agree with him very strongly.

There are issues on both sides that I agree w/ and disagree w/. I'm not going to list them all. I happen to be fortunate enough that I can afford my house. I'm not a big fan of helping people keep their houses when they got into a loan they couldn't afford. I'm a lot more worried about our safety as a nation than any other issue. I'm not a big believer that O knows nearly as much about foreign issues as he would like people to believe. He didn't know who to speak out against when Russia invaded Georgia. I'm not a big fan of McCain picking an unworthy running mate. I'm not a big fan of O's beliefs on abortion or on him not wanting live babies to get medical treatment. I could go on, and on.

Agreed.

I think while Obama was slicker, McCain was probably slightly better this evening. However, when trailing by 6-8%, it probably won't give him much of a bump, if any. Amazing to me how the one person who can PROVE that they warned about the potential impending issues 2-3 years ago, is getting tagged with the blame by being linked to Bush. When that legislation was discussed, we don't know what Obama was thinking because he never weighed in on the issue. Considering the $125,000 he received from Fannie Mae, I understand why.

I have to admit Obama has done a good job in getting people to associate McCain with Bush and deflect all criticisms of his plans and lack of accomplishments. I think McCain needs to give more specific examples of what he has done and tell the American people about his record. He did a little better tonight, but not good enough I am afraid. He actually has introduced legislation on the environment (The McCain / Leiberman Environmental Act) which while I disagreed with portions of it, had the right intent but has not been able to pass. I still cannot find any actual accomplishments of Obama, I really cannot. If he has accomplished anything in his tenure in Washington or Illinois, please let me know what it is. He talks a good game and in today's economy, that may very well be enough to get him elected.

This was probably a push. Even the guys on the right-hand side of the CNN commentators aisle (Bill Bennett, etc.) are saying that it was no better than a tie, which doesn't help the candidate that's 6 or 8 points down with four weeks to go. Probably no needed bounce for the McCain ticket.

Like I've said before, I didn't watch the whole thing and was distracted for the lot of it I did see. But, it didn't appear that McCain was drawing any distinction between he and Obama. A push is a bad loss for McCain at this point.

NBC ran a "Truth Squad" segement after the debate. McCain assertion that we were facing a crisis was due to accounting measures, not subprime loans.

In the interest of irritating everyone, I will be posting the remainder of the night in very very poor German (beginning with the next post).

The Obama campaign has seized on McCain calling O "that one" and not calling him by his name.

Yeah, a fellow BGPer picked up on that one and keyed me into it. I just saw the replay. Not good. I do think that it is a generational thing, though. My grandmother, who was 78 when she died back in 96, used to say that.

Technically, IMO, Sadaam committed ethnocide.

Courts brought charges of genocide against Hussein..so it is really genocide.

I don't think it's a big deal at all. However, if the shoe were on the other foot I'm sure we'd already have 4 threads about it. Like if Obama called McCain "Old man winter" or something.

We have a rule. No low German on BGP. Only High Germanic or Gallic languages, please.

I don't think rockmom is disputing what Hussein did. Genocide is a broad term that includes the attempted elimination of any group for ethnic, racial, religious, or political reasons (my addition). She's just being specific.
