I just don't see how that could be a negative towards McCain, or Obama for that matter.

A few thoughts that we’ll get a clearer picture of later:

 

I said McCain would pick up a point or so. He’s taken a drubbing this week because of the economy, and he performed well tonight, so I think he’ll trend up a bit, or at least stop the falling. Obama didn’t lose, and this was his weak issue. He’s also leading, so that may be an advantage for him coming out of this debate. Regardless, debates move the polls precious little and neither dominated.

 

There are a lot of intangibles that affect how voters feel. I keep hearing things about McCain looking angry, or Obama looking into the camera, which I didn’t notice or pay attention to. McCain stumbled over Ahmedenijad’s name and it took him a couple of tries to get it right and Obama had to look at his bracelet to read the soldier’s name. I though both of those were significant.

 

How will voters weight the issues? This is extremely important. Will Iraq be the topic de jour or will it be Al-Qaeda? What about the tax policies? Does the financial crisis hurt McCain’s deductions for the rich? Does Obama’s absence from trips to Iraq and Afghanistan hurt him?

I think these are all things that no analysts will figure out. Especially since we are following the issues anyway we have more vested into these debates.

Well, in our defense I'm quite certain it can be spelled that way. I don't think it hurt McCain, per se, he obviously knows how to say that name and it is a tongue twister. But, people see things differently, so I don't know.

The point is all politicians lie. Which I think RTS was trying to get at that. That is why are economy is like it is.

Serious question, what has Obama done that will cause you to feel good about him handling the economy?

Not in this debate. McCain had to hit a HR, foreign policy is his baby. I felt Obama held his own and was more knowledgeable on subjects I thought he would have a little trouble with. McCain didn't look at Obama once, he was mean and I feel that will hurt him. Just wondering, did McCain quote anyone from BGP? I had to step away for a few minutes and wasn't sure. I believe he quoted about 15 people.

 

Here's my take on the debate.

 

Obama was more articulate. He was smooth, well studied and prepared. It's obvious he can study up on things and debate. There's plenty high school students that could debate the same issues with enough preparation.

 

McCain was knowledgeable, passionate and firm.

 

McCain was debating with his experience. Yes, I know he studied prior to the debate also, but he was fueled by real experience.

 

IMO McCain is simply more presidential.

A media curves panel scored the debate for Obama. Though I'd put much more stock in scientific polling. However, I couldn't pass up these statistics:

 

90% of Republicans thought McCain won, while 93% of Democrats thought Obama won. That would be funny if it weren't so sad.

What is infinitely more telling to me is that Independents went 61-39 for Obama.

Were the people at home and in the seats the only ones that realized there were 2 candidates on stage? From the video I saw Sen. McCain didn't even know that Sen. Obama was on the stage. Never once looked at him even when he was being addressed by Sen. Obama.
