Most of the polling of the past two elections had GW losing every time and polls are what we are discussing at present.

I guess I expected more poise from him. I honestly have held the opinion of him that he'd be at his best in a debate format...for one reason...his experience. I'm not holding it against him. I just had that "image" of him.

 

I've been hearing on here for MONTHS that people couldn't wait for the debates because Obama can't find a complete sentence without a teleprompter...seems like he did just fine tonight...and now those people are changing their story.

Not really, he saw gains in the polls during the last two debates in '04. Most media members and pundits thought Kerry won the debates, or at least a majority, but the polling never matched. Same with Gore. Gore lost points on the first debate and never hedged enough back during the last two.

Were the people at home and in the seats the only ones that realized there were 2 candidates on stage? From the video I saw Sen. McCain didn't even know that Sen. Obama was on the stage. Never once looked at him even when he was being addressed by Sen. Obama.

 

This did throw me for a loop. It seemed out of character for McCain and strangely disrespectful (for lack of a better word).

I did notice that. I didn't take this as a sign of disrespect between peers. If he called President Bush "George" then yes, I'd consider that disrespectful, but not with peers.

Depending on where the data is obtained I suppose many different conclusions can be reached, but according to news stories I had googled earlier, Fox, CBS, and ABC all had published polls claiming that Kerry won the debates by small margins even though Bush continued to increase his lead slightly in the polls of likely voters.

Using first names is not common practice in presidential debates.

I feel like McCain did a very good job dumming down the material and painting a picture so that the general public could understand where he was coming from. I like that, not that I really need it but I am sure many do when they discuss all the different policies that they do. I dont' feel like neither truely won the debate, but I will give McCain the small nod.

McCain speaks with authority and doesn't drag out his answers, sort of like a military person. Obama comes off more like a constitutional scholar.

I have a bridge to sell you if you don't think it was a political move on Senator Obama part to downplay Senator McCain.

 

What would you have said if Senator McCain referred to Senator Obama as "Barak Hussein" all night long?

 

BTW how many times tonight did Senator Obama start off by agreeing with Senator McCain? My guess is you will see Senator Obama in many of Senator McCain ads soon agreeing time after time with what Senator McCain is saying!
