Philpott's kickoffs were also terrible, he hooks it outside of the hash like a knuckleball every time. He justs needs to work this year, and let the other guy handle it for the time being.

 

Our kick coverage wasn't all that good, either, and of course they had the one return for the TD.

 

Defense had a hole in the deep middle. K-State had real success with the deep in and with the TE deep middle. Late in the game we got him covered with Canady, but the 'hole' in that area reminded me of last year. I wasn't as concerned with the cushion we were giving on the short outs. Yes, they were getting 6-8 yards on those, but with a lead and their fast receivers, we didn't allow anything deep. When they tried to inside out, we smoked them. The difference this year is that with English I am confident we will get that stuff corrected, last year I had no such confidence.

 

I can't believe I'm still the only one to talk about the strong line play, and we had two injuries there we were covering.

 

Also, somebody mentioned poor DL play, they just weren't watching the same game. The DL flushed Freeman all night, they only had 30 yards rushing, Heyman had a couple of big hits, and I think Adrian Grady had an excellent game. Several of us in the stands were watching him get double-teamed and he still got a nice up-field push.

 

I've watched South Florida and we're nowhere near them, but I think West Virginia may be this year's Louisville '07 (lots of hype, no substance), and I think with continued work on blocking/tackling and assignments, we can compete and beat WVU, Pitt, Rutgers, UConn, Syracuse, and Cincinatti.

 

3) One of the radio guys really made a comparison between a UofL back and Barry Sanders...

Two Questions:

 

1. What happened to the RB UofL had last year that was SUPER FAST, he was a freshmen I believe. He basically won the the East Carolina game last year I was at, I think it was that game.

Question #1: Are you talking about George Stripling? Anthony Allen is more of a bruising back. He had a school record rushing game......against Middle Tennessee, I believe.

And it could've been worse. Dang, the crowd deserved it's Q'doba tacos. Aw well.

 

Terrific showing from the homegrown peoples. Chichester isn't where he needs to be, but I thought I saw a subtle hint of improvement. Hunter Cantwell was what we knew he could be. Defensive line needs work.

 

Remember that Josh Chichester is a freshman, so is Victor, add to that a sophomore Doug Beaumont....man, the future doesn't look so bad, huh?

Why, why, WHY, do our corners consistently give 8-10 yard cushions on receivers? We give up way too many first downs that way.

 

Deuce, they do that in blitz situations, if they were truly lock down corners they would play bump, but since they're not at that level yet, you have to give a cushion so that 8 yards is better than 80.

Why did K-State stick in man to man?

 

I am a huge Cantwell fan, but I must say that whoever wants to play man against Louisville will see Hunter flourish...zone? Not so much, I have said this for 4 years now.

Given all the platitudes on this thread, what did Coach Kragthorpe do to make him a better coach than he was 12 months ago?

Maybe some UL boosters/Krag haters hit the panic button a little too early.

Sometimes good things come to those who wait.

- UL is finding their groove it seems. This was an excellent win, and I totally agree that the Big East Championship is definately plausible.

 

- Doug Beaumont is my favorite college football player that is not playing for UK. I love his attitude and workmanship out there.He's not talking trash, just making plays.

 

- Night's like last night reassures that their is definately plenty of D-1 talent in our state and that talent is improving.

 

- Ron English is going to be Steve Kragthorpe's savior.

 

- Chichester is UL's X-factor, if this kid improves and stops dropping passes he poses major matchup problems for everyone UL will be playing. But, on night's like last night he may also be a liability with his drops.

 

- UL fans didn't really want to admit it after the UK game, but UK's defense definately top tier.

I have been high on Kragthorpe from the get go....I am not proclaiming him a hero now, but he is a solid coach, and the right man to be here in Louisville.

I'm going to continue looking for some clips on youtube, I thought I remembered him being #24. Very small and quick is what I remember. I only go to 1-2 UofL games a year and I had moved from $30 seats at PJCS to the $400 seats after halftime because so many people left and from looking over the Rutgers sideline, I remember a speedy back lighting everyones fire in the stands and the kicker having a great night.

It has to be Bilal, he is #33, no one else did anything with any substance.
