Did Gino suit up tonight? This sounds like what was it 2000 all over again. This is not the first time they did this to Holmes I believe.

I guess some of the second guess, Dale bashers think the Birds should have just punted every play in the second half . Or , maybe they should have played a little 5 on 11 or play with blindfolds on so they would not be able to see the fumbles to pick them up. Honestly, what more can you do than to put in 3rd and 4th teamers, suit up the custodians and cafeteria lunch ladies? I don't think the hairnets would be allowed....

I know, I mean come on! The only thing that I would even come close to putting into question was passing the ball in 3rd quarter for a touchdown to Roller. But as I thought about it, the Birds needed some practice passing since they didn't get to do that very well, or very much in first two games.

 

Once Roller scored, I got my kids and started heading for the door. From the time we stood up and I got them out of bleachers, stopped at bathroom, I think Holmes coughed it up twice and HHS scored 2 more times within the 5 minutes giveortake, that we were leaving. So, come on!!! I will say that I was very impressed with the play selection and calling by Lickert's offense. The only issue was, they just had butterfingers all night. Sometimes that happens, you just get a case of the "drops."

 

Which was a screen play to the tight end i might add.

Screen or not...Pass thrown up 42-6 by Guidugli, that is what i am talking about. For your sake, this happened so your son could get an opportunity to play, with a running clock. I am not badmouthing the tactics of the Coach but simply stating that it was not needed. I believe the game was in hand at this point. I would not be happy if I was Coach Lickert nor would I be surprised. At the same token, I would not be happy with the play of my team either...

Your winning so you tell your team to quit playing? Makes sense..

I doubt that Coach Lickert (being a former Bluebird) would misinterpret the event in such a way as to be upset about it.

It was a screen pass, to get a first down. Roller makes some great moves and breaks 3 or 4 tackles. What do you want. Dale wanted to work on some things. The Birds threw 6 passes in the whole second half and all early in the third period. Completed 5 and only one deep ball. Problem with this game again was Holmes could not hold on to the ball. Birds were getting too many chances very early in 3rd. Scoring on 2 or 3 play drives. Again all the TO's and you got pasted. Holmes needs to forget this game and correct these issues. As others have said , they have a nice team and just need to eliminate the miscues.

What would you suggest, if on a running play they break clear of the line, stop in the secondary and take a knee. When any team allows 70 points, they didn't have a good night, regardless of what the other team did.

Coming from a guy with no dog in this fight...I've been on both the winning and the losing side of these types of games...

 

I don't have a problem with the score.

 

In fact, I wouldn't have had a problem with Highlands leaving the starters in until the beginning of the 4th quarter. You simply can't throw 14, 15 and 16 year old JV kids in against another teams varsity squad. That's a very good way to get a player hurt.

 

As far as passing, no, you shouldn't be airing the ball out when your up that much, but I don't see a problem with throwing a screen, running the draw, the option or whatever you feel like your team needs to work on. When you run the same play over and over just to watch time run off the clock, bad habits can form because the players aren't taking it seriously.

I don't see what the big deal is about having the 2nd string QB of Highlands passing the ball when the bluebirds are up. He needs reps and that is the perfect time to get them. The subs for the Bluebirds are going to play as hard as the starters. And that is the way it should be. If Holmes loses 100-7, big deal. They need to get over it and try to improve. Coach Lickert knew what he was getting into when he went to Holmes. If some of you people think that is too harsh, that's your opinion. I guarantee you that Travis Alford will hit somebody as hard as he can whether he is in a tight game or if he is up 60. Some of these Holmes Bulldogs that took this whipping on the football field will probably be dunking on the Bluebirds come basketball season.
