Ugly game by Holmes. Pretty game by the BlueBirds.

There is nothling like a 60+ point win vs. a Kentucky opponent after losing to Colerain. That really boosts the confidence. I am sure Coach Lickert, as a former Highlands grad, expected no less. BTW stickymitts, the Birds may be 64 points better than a lot of teams this year. But sometimes you just call off the dogs, on the dogs...

We just ran the last ones out. :thumb: Don't they know I get up at 4 during the week? Actually, they voluntarily left. Now if I can just get Henry to get out of post game party mode.

 

Birds look sluggish in the first half. Honestly the first half and maybe the entire game would have been closer if Holmes had taken care of the ball. Wheels came off big time in the third quarter for Holmes. Lickert will get it put together with time. He has some nice players. Dale actually started substituting in part early in the 3rd quarter and entirely by about mid way in the 3rd quarter. With such a young team, they need time on the field big time. I know Dale would have liked to have Wil Bardo (back up qb) get some meaningful time passing the ball, but elected to just have him hand the ball off to the back up running backs. Contrary to what the score may indicate and some may think, Dale didn't do anything to run up the score. Almost zero (heck it may have been zero) passing was done by the subs and Holmes fumbles really made it worse.

 

 

 

Dixie's next. Can't look past them to CovCath. I know Dixie's struggled to date, but there's a lot of pride in that school and I'm sure they'll be up for the Birds big time. Need to focus.

It seems that 6 of HHS' 10 TDs in the game came off of Holmes TOs. From the stats I saw, it sounds like HHS had a very nicely balanced offensive attack Friday night.

 

Also, I'd like to give some much-deserved credit to Highlands' kicking game. It was VERY shaky in the preseason, but the 'Birds seem to be doing very well with kick-offs and XPs/FGs during the first three games of the regular season. I know that Adam Weinel is handling XPs/FGs (by the way, he was 7-for-7 with XPs Friday night)... is Rosenhagen doing the kick-offs? How has the punting game been? Is Hogue doing this?

Hogue does the punting. Rosie does the kickoffs and Weinel does the XPs and FGs. All have performed superbly.

 

You are right about the turn overs. In the first half, Holmes moved the ball very, very well against Highlands. Honestly, I was worried at the end of the first quarter. I think Steve is doing a nice job teaching the Holmes kids football, but they have to hold onto the ball better. Perhaps the field had a lot to do with the turnovers. Hang in there Bull Dogs. Keep working hard; keep listening to your coaches; and don't quit.

 

There were several Holmes players shaken up at various times throughout the game. Any Holmes fan have a report? I hope they are all okay.

You know i was expecting Highlands to start taking a knee with about 4 min left in the 3rd but they didn't. I was shocked!!!!:rolleyes:Come on man, quit trying to turn this thing around on Highlands. Holmes was pitiful tonight holding onto the football. Highlands did nothing but go out and exucute tonight like they are supposed to. Am i defending Dale, Heck no!!! I'm defending the kids that work their butts off during the week to get a chance to play. Holmes just flat out quit last night. Period!!!!!

Helps to know what you're talking about. My son's 3rd string on the JV and he got in for a few minutes. Dogs were called off pretty early, in the third.

I just spoke w/ my neighbor. He says that the subs went in right away. I have no problem w/ starters coming out for the first series of the second half to get used to the break and picking the intensity back up. Sounds like that is what Highlands did and then used most of its players. If you don't tackle for a half and turn the ball over...what can you do. Just as Mooney's 57 pt. victory over CovCath was an abberation, I believe that this was as well. Holmes just needs to keep coming to work. It'll happen sooner rather than later.

I know, I mean come on! The only thing that I would even come close to putting into question was passing the ball in 3rd quarter for a touchdown to Roller. But as I thought about it, the Birds needed some practice passing since they didn't get to do that very well, or very much in first two games.

 

Once Roller scored, I got my kids and started heading for the door. From the time we stood up and I got them out of bleachers, stopped at bathroom, I think Holmes coughed it up twice and HHS scored 2 more times within the 5 minutes giveortake, that we were leaving. So, come on!!! I will say that I was very impressed with the play selection and calling by Lickert's offense. The only issue was, they just had butterfingers all night. Sometimes that happens, you just get a case of the "drops."

Well put. Just because they were having a bad night doesn't mean we should lay down. If anyone was at that game you would know that in the very beginning of the game, Holmes put together a very impressive drive and I actually was quite nervous. The score of 28-6 at half doesn't reflect how close it could've been without all the turnovers. Once they learn to hang on to the ball, they'll be a solid ball team.
