Ned Yost needs to calm down. You still won the game. What's it really going to matter if they rule the one hit an error? Sabathia said it could have gone either way and he is right.

I think the decision to call it a hit helped him the rest of the game by taking away the pressure of a no-hitter.

I saw the replay and while I think if he fielded it cleanly he could have got him out, im not entirely sure it was a bad call.

 

I do think you sould have to really earn that first hit of any game though, just in case these things happen.

 

I would have ruled it an E, but that's me. I was a pitcher so maybe that's my frame of reference too.

And how do we know that if that is ruled an error, he doesn't come back and give up another hit later. Yes, I realize the point of the argument is that he DIDN'T give up a hit the rest of the game, but one little thing can lead to a chain reaction.

He actually pulled him after 90 pitches his last start, bullpen came in and gave it up and he got a no decision.

 

I don't really care, I'm looking forward to the Cubs giving the Brewers another beatdown very shortly.

 

In sticking with the thread topic, I do agree that CC is throwing way too many pitches in his starts.

I watched the replay several times and see both sides of E/Hit. a no-hitter is a tremendous accomplishment but the Official Scorer, gave a fairly good reason to his own ruling.

 

It's not easy for a LHP, to sprint off the mound and field a ball, 1/3 of way down the 3rd baseline. Basically a swinging bunt, with spin. Sabathia didn't drop it, or pick it up and then mis-handle, he never got a grip on it and reasonable effort, would have resulted in an out.

 

Leave it as a hit.

If the fat slob would get in shape he could have fielded the ball with no problem, and thrown the guy out. After he bent over once and failed to pick up the ball, we all knew he didn't have it in him to try it again. :D

He's actually, a very good fielder. In this game, he caught a soft/broken bat linedrive, back up the middle with his barehand and doubled up a player, at 1st.

 

He got to the ball okay, but didn't use his glove, on a ball that had a tremendous amount of spin.

To me, it was an error ... but there is no reason to go back and change it now.
