Congrats on your 25th reunion. Whatever happened to 83Bird? I havent seen any post from that guy in a while.
I talked to him last night. Mrs. 83Bird and I were in charge of the reception desk. Although my only real duty there was to periodically say the word "papyrus." (Yes, it is a long story.)

Bible Thumper/In crowd don't mix. Played sports and watched sports. Tried to find a girl friend.

Thanks for sharing and maybe try to stay in touch with some of those folks.

I plan to. It's kind of like making a whole new set of friends. They just happen to be in the bodies of people you went to school with.

I know a guy that had a little to much fun at the reunion for the football team friday.

My 35th is this year, but 500 miles away, so I won't make it.

I was one of those that was on the fringe of a couple of groups - jocks (wrestled in 10th and 11th grade), college prep crowd, and the (in 12 grade, anyway) "intellectual but hard-partying" crowd. But with a graduating class of 649, there were lots of crowds to choose from.

I loved, LOVED, LOVED high school. Everything about it. I was very involved in several different things: sang in the Glee Club, acted in plays, National Honor Society, community service projects, went to DeSales football games every Friday (except when Trinity and X were playing)etc. I had friends from all the different "groups", and some that weren't in any group. I was fortunate to be one of those people who could move in and out of circles. We haven't had a formal reunion since our 5th. But, I run into people I went to school with every once in a while, and I'm always surprised that they remember me. I never considered myself a "memorable" sort. Of course there were only 75 students in my graduating class, so I guess it would be harder to forget somebody than if there had been a few hundred.

Did anyone have flashbacks to Peter Brady when you read the bolded?

I've never gone to a HS reunion and don't care to. Kind of reminds me of the cafeteria in HS (OMG can you believe ? is wearing that). Glad you had a great time BF. (BTW did marry my BF and it will be 31 yrs on Wednesday).

See, that's why we agree on so many things -- our HS experiences were so similar. :D

Our school was small, and I tried to be friendly with everyone. I really only consider a couple people my close friends, and they're the only ones I keep track of. Our 20th is this year, and I've not heard if a reunion is planned. Regardless, I won't go. If I want to see those people, all I have to do is spend a couple days in Warsaw, as most of them haven't advanced beyond that.

What do you mean by "most of them haven't advanced beyond that"? I hope you don't mean it the way it sounds. It sounds like you feel superior because you did "advance beyond that".

My hometown is just like most small towns in Kentucky, where most folks aren't willing to take chances and move away from the comforts of home, instead settling for not realizing their full potential. For me to ever have a chance of making anything of myself, I had to get the hell out of there, as there is nothing for me there.

I was just thinking. I have been out for 25 years and we have never had any reunions at all. What I really got out of that was "Holy Crap! I've been out of HS for 25 years! I am getting old!"

But it hit me, at that moment, that maybe I'll never see some of those folks again. And the ones I do see again, it might not be for another five years. But the hardest part of all is the finality of it all.

I had my 25 year reunion in July and understand SO MUCH of what you said in your first post.

I suppose one would say I was part of the "in" crowd. I played basketball and tennis, and was a drummer in the band. I was in so many cliques that I would talk to or ignore the same person several times during the same day depending on what group I was with at the time (just kidding). Actually, I pretty much hung around everybody but had very few truly close friends (not unlike the present).

I'm glad you did what you needed to do to be happy just like some people stay in their small hometown and are happy. I too come from a small town in KY. I went to college, graduated, came home and chose to raise my kids here. I don't feel like I settled for anything.

My 25th reunion is coming up in October. I am looking forward to it in some ways, in others, not so much. It should be fun to catch up with some old friends.

We had two primary groups in high school: the jocks and the freaks. But the unusual thing was a lot of us hung out together. Oh there may have been a couple of members of each group that didn't get along with the other group, but it wasn't a really big thing. I've attended a couple of reunions but it wasn't a really big thing either way for me as I still see a large majority of my classmates around town. As BF and others know, a large number of people that graduate from Highlands end up living in Ft. Thomas.

Everyone knew me in high school... I would talk to anyone who had something worth saying. I didn't like the "in" crowd though... I talked to them, but they got on my nerves.
