Yankees more than likely done for?????

Featured Replies

Not that I mind to see the Yanks struggle, In fact I kind of enjoy it, but....

With pretty much just one month and a few odd days of the regular season remaining I think it is safe to say you can pretty much scratch the Yankees out of the post season. Who could have ever saw this one coming? With the payroll they have and the talent the put on the field, they should perform at a higher level than this. The Stienbrenner's must want to hang their heads over this, but more than likely will put all the blame off on someone else, and perhaps fire half the organization including janitors. Just goes to show how important pitching is in the bigs in comparison to having a solid batting lineup.

With all that being said, who would have thought a couple years ago that the Yanks would have been missing out on the post season, and worst of all being replaced by the Rays?

Furthermore, A-Rod was booed at home today by the Yankee faithful, so you think if he had last off-season to do over he would have still signed with the Yanks, or instead bail out elsewhere?

Thoughts and opinions?

Twins are struggling now on their brutal road trip, but you figure it's going to be Rays, Red Sox, White Sox, Twins. Three of those four get in, no way the Yankees with all their injuries can catch those teams.

It will be sad if anyone blames Girardi for this, all the injuries they have had, makes it a tad difficult to win on a consistent basis.

This has been coming for a while now, how many times the last few seasons have the Yankees been on the brink of missing the playoffs and then make a run to get it only to get knocked out before the ALCS. It was just a matter of time before someone else in the East had a halfway decent year, just turned out to be the Rays.

Just don't blame Brian Cashman for this. According to Born2Reign he's the best GM in the business in spite of spending over $1 BILLION the last 8 seasons and winning bupkiss.

Yep, I don't think he got enough credit for their great run. Will be interesting to see if and when he jumps ship and where he might end up. It's easy to write checks with an unlimited account, but I think he is a great GM.

He's a very, very good GM. He's not the best but he's one of the best. He did inherit Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Williams, Martinez, Cone, Pettite among others plus he was handed an unlimited checkbook. He did sign or trade for Giambi, Matsui, Abreu, Damon, A-Rod, Randy Johnson, Mussina, Igawa, Pavano, Wright, Farnsworth, Gordon, Myers, Bellhorn, I-Rod, Nady, Sexson, etc without winning anything. Is he really that good or can he just afford to cover his mistakes?

Cashman is decent but the Yankees can always afford to try and outspend their mistakes ...

If Cashman does end up leaving or getting fired, we will find out how good of a GM he is. Especially if he ends up in a situation with a "normal" 70 million dollar payroll.

I do agree that it is difficult to gage, because he can just go out and buy/trade for someone else if a problem comes up.

To me the Yankees just aren't as intimedating as they were a few years back. Their pitching is suspect and the guys they have signed are all getting old for the most part. Posada hasn't stayed healthy either. AROD gets a lot of the blame but to me if you said pick one guy to start building around tomorrow off that team I wouldn't flinch in saying AROD. If that's the case the the "Yankee faithful" need to realize he can't do everything.

The Yankees have been decimated with injuries this year. Even with all the problems they've had this year, they're only 6 games out of the Wild Card...it's highly unlikely they could pass the Sox and the Twins and get in, especially considering they have a pretty tough schedule. They've made they playoffs for what, 13 straight seasons. It was bound to end sooner or later.

I wouldn't go writing the Yankees off just yet. They still have a lot of talent.

But, Steinbrenner probably will fire half the organization.

Seriously, the Rays are a story by themselves. Nobody expected them to have the best record in baseball.

Never count out the Yankees but this year it would almost take a minor miracle for them to make it.

I'm a big, big, Yankee fan. I know when the team is done. And the Yanks are done for the season. Too many injuries has, really hampered the team.

I wonder how many of thsose signings or trades he actually wanted to do. We've heard for years that he didn't want to trade young pieces for vets. He had the same ideas as Boston, but his boss didn't buy in nearly as quickly. Both teams can cover up for mistakes w/ money. Theyr'e a few years away from really cashing in on drafting and keeping talented players.

Stick a fork in them...

I'm not sure anything makes me happier in the world of sports than to say the Yankees will not make the playoffs.
