January 10, 200917 yr Good luck with Holmes. Hopefully, Vories has had them working on their zone!:eek: Highlands played man-man the entire game and was successfull. Only time HOlmes scored was on stickbacks where guys didnt block out. All of their shots made were within 8 feet. I mean every basket, no exageration.
January 10, 200917 yr HMS 7th grade defeated today at Holmes by the Two Rivers Titans. (44-29) HMS had been playing much better, but regressed today. Two Rivers has a nice team. #22--sorry don't know his name, is as good a player as I have seen this year. He can break down defense, score, distribute, etc. I wonder if that is Jalen Avery, we got there late. Jalen is a TarHeel and very good at distributing the ball. He struggles with a shot but a great floor general.
January 10, 200917 yr So a lot is being said on this thread about NKY middle school basketball. Can someone give the run down on the different leagues. Whose in what league, who has the best teams, what are the standings, who are some of the better players, who are the coaches etc. etc. I am interested and read this thread a lot. Highlands, Campbell Co(Purple and Gold) Beechwood, Newport, Sharp, Summit View, Twenhofel, Holmes (TwoRivers 7th), St. Pius and Woodland I think. Boone Co has their own league I think and it consist of these teams. Ockerman, Conner, R.A Jones, Gray Middle, Tichenor, ? ? Conference games are played in the NKYMSBL usually home and away. Highlands adds games on their schedule with teams from Boone and Catholic leagues. For instance, they have IHM, Blessed Sacrament, Gray, R.A Jones, St. Thomas, etc Highlands will play probably 35 games when it is said and done if you count tournaments and league games. Im not sure of the coaches for everyone. Mike Vories coaches Highlands 8th. I know Mark Franzen has the Summit View teams.

The league that the Boone County schools play in is called the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference (NKAC) and it includes Boone County schools (Gray, Conner, Jones, Camp Ernst, and Ockerman) plus Erlanger (Tichenor) and Grant County (Grant Middle).

January 11, 200917 yr Someone asked the question and I gave my answer. I don't need to get over anything! I was referring to the officiating and said nothing to the effect of the way Woodland's boy's played. The game was handed to them by Summit and the refs and I beleive at the time I gave them props for doing what was neccessary to win the game. Don't remember a parent acting like he was going onto the court but do remember looking at a few Woodland parents that I know after a few calls and they had big smiles on their faces. One actually shrugged his shoulders at me. Maybe the break your asking for was already given to you! I have to jump in on this one too... Woodland played well enough to win the game. I too know most of the Woodland parent and they know what really happen. I'm sure everyone is over it, the comment was really directed at the question asked earlier that day. No Summit Parent ran to the court (or acted that way), if any it may have been to stop one of the players from getting into trouble?

They played at 10:30 p.m. and came out strong scoring 18 -8 in the first quarter. The final was 48- 35. They are also in the finals for two tourneys tomorrow (Sunday) -- St. Thomas and St. Mary.
January 11, 200917 yr -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mason County's 6th, 7th, and 8th travel to Flemingsburg Monday to play Fleming Co. First 2 games should be battles, but Mason's 8th handled Fleming very easily last time. Any thoughts or predictions?
January 11, 200917 yr Earlier this year when these two hooked up on the 7th grade level Fleming Co. led by something like 30-7 at the half and cruised from there. I predict - hopefully a better game. Mason in a somewhat close game in the 6th., and Mason by quite a bit in the 8th. Mason's 7th grade bunch have never defeated FC but they have picked up a couple of players that certainly make them better. In all honesty even though the first game was a blowout it should be a really good game.

January 11, 200917 yr How many gaems will St Mary 8th play by the end of the year? League games + tourneys + scrimmages = ? It seems like it will be over 50 games. That is about right Im sure. I talked to a parent of one of the kids from Our lady of Visitation in OH and he said they will play 60+ by the time the year is over. He said it was ridiculous and I agree. I know all of the diocese want to recipricate with tournament entries for fundraising but that is too much. Its a nightmare for the parents who have other children, just the logistics side of things. Im all for playing many games to get better but 60 is too much for one season.
