South Laurel 8th held on to defeat Knox Central last night in a very good game. South Laurel led by 16 late in the third and held off a strong rally from Knox Central to pick up the win.

 

South Laurel is a good 8th grade team. If they have Sanders healthy at the time of the KBA state, and play, they will be a tough out

Is Knox Central the team with the 6'5 kid and the guard who looks 21?

 

Yes, The 6'5 kid has really improved his game and the kid that looks 21 is Canady.

OOOOO...Good Question!!! If you're talking about getting "Homered" by the officials, Summit had a dandy slapped on them last year at Woodland!

and the way the Summit View parents were acting was awful. A parent running down out of the stands like he was going to storm the court,Please! give me a break

The officials in middle school are pretty bad all the way around, and it does'nt get much better at the freshman level.

Highlands 8th lost tonight to Our Lady of Visitation OH 39-28. Unoficially they had more turnovers then points I believe. Free Throw shooting continues to be a major problem. The other night they were 6 for 18 and tonight probably not much better.

 

In the morning they get the task of facing Holmes at 10:30am. ugggh

Camels Purple swept Sharp @ Sharp last night 6, 7 and 8. The officials were less than desirable for the Camel faithful.

 

So that brings up an interesting question. What middle school is the toughest environment (crowd, officials, noise) to get the win????

 

By far the toughest grade school tourney as far as crowd, noise etc. is the St. Joseph Bluejay classic. they have a nice sized grade school gym that they pack every night.

The St. Joseph Bluejay Classic is the longest running grade school tournament in the area - 49 years. It runs for four or five weekends and has great competition. It is a high school game like atmosphere with theme nights, blarring music, free give-aways, cheerleaders and the stands are always packed. It gets very, very loud.

Someone asked the question and I gave my answer. I don't need to get over anything! I was referring to the officiating and said nothing to the effect of the way Woodland's boy's played. The game was handed to them by Summit and the refs and I beleive at the time I gave them props for doing what was neccessary to win the game. Don't remember a parent acting like he was going onto the court but do remember looking at a few Woodland parents that I know after a few calls and they had big smiles on their faces. One actually shrugged his shoulders at me. Maybe the break your asking for was already given to you!

8th grade Final.

 

Highlands almost pulled off a win today at Holmes. They jumped out 10-2 on the Bulldogs executing their offense and breaking the press. 1st qtr score I believe was 12-4. Halftime score was 22-15 Birds. Holmes had a couple players sit out the 1st half for disciplinary reasons. They made a difference in the 2nd half with #30 (long and athletic) scoring 6 straight points in 3rd qtr to take 2 pt lead. Birds hung tough continuing to break the press and attack the Dogs converting layups and outrebounding the home team. Bulldogs had the ball and a 3 pt lead with 15 seconds left and David Christian of the Birds got a big steal and was falling out of bounds as he called a timeout. Birds brought ball to halfcourt and called another TO setting up a 3pt attempt. Colin Dupont got a great look from the corner that went in and out. Game over. Very nice effort for the Birds against a decent Holmes squad. Bulldogs didnt shoot well and lacked intensity at times.

 

Interesting tidbit worth mentioning. Former Bulldog Varsity Head Coach Mike Flynn was one of the officals today in this game. I found it rather strange he felt the Bulldogs didnt commit one 2nd half foul. He did not blow it once in the 2nd half against the home team. Myself and two other parents kept track.

HMS 7th grade defeated today at Holmes by the Two Rivers Titans. (44-29) HMS had been playing much better, but regressed today. Two Rivers has a nice team. #22--sorry don't know his name, is as good a player as I have seen this year. He can break down defense, score, distribute, etc.

So a lot is being said on this thread about NKY middle school basketball. Can someone give the run down on the different leagues. Whose in what league, who has the best teams, what are the standings, who are some of the better players, who are the coaches etc. etc.

 

I am interested and read this thread a lot. There is times I am a little confused.
