August 21, 200818 yr IOC blasts Bolt: 'Not the way we perceive being a champion' Methinks Msr. Rogge should worry more about underage children competing in the gymnastics. :thumb:At least Bolt has all his permanent teeth.
August 21, 200818 yr Anyone offended by Bolt's actions? He is catching some flak from the IOC for being too demonstrative and not as congratulatory to his peers as they feel he should be. I thought his attitude was a breath of fresh air, but I can see where some would think he was hot-dogging and maybe be put off by that. When I was 22, and if I would have been the fastest man in the world, I may have pulled my drawers down to show each of my competitors what they'd be looking at for the forseeable future!! Dude can fly.
August 21, 200818 yr Did anyone see what his actual splits were for the race? They were saying last night that he could be the best 400m in the world, and he doesn't even compete in that event.

August 21, 200818 yr Does anyone else sing the "Jamaica, we have a bobsled team," song when anyone from Jamaica is competing? Edited August 21, 200818 yr by bugatti

August 21, 200818 yr Wow ... I am amazed that no one has asked the question yet in this thread. Is Bolt clean? I will cast the stone. As a track coach ... it makes me sick to my stomach to watch this guy. And the one thing that people don't realize is that, just because these guys are drug tested now--and at other times, it doesn't mean that they are clean. PEDS are used effectively during the non-compeition phase (training) ... not in the compeition phase. Not to mention ... guys (slimy guys) like Victor Conte have made a very good living developing PED's that deguise theirselves as other legal agents within the human body. (Victor Conte also just wrote an interesting article that speaks to the poor testing system of Caribbean nations--I will track down the link) in the non-compeition phase. Also ... remember guys .. if it looks like a duck .. and walks like a duck ... and quacks like a duck ... it is probably not a barracuda. Has anyone noticed the "improved" performance of all Jamaican athletes? Did anyone see the womens 100? Did anyone know that Bolt has improved his 100 Meter PR nearly .60 since this time last year? (For those who don't know elite running ... that is something that rarely .. and I mean .. RARELY happens at this level). That doesn't even speak to the fact that he pulled up (which also points to questions). The truth of the matter is ... this guy will eventually be caught. But it isn't going to happen until he is in the non-compeition phase. And I hate to tell you this ... about 90% of all track athletes are doped to the gills. The distance athletes as well (usually with EPO).

As a track coach ... it makes me sick to my stomach to watch this guy. Do we have a reason, to suspect he's not. With his size and physique, his longer strides maybe the difference. I see no reason, to suspect this and surely we haven't reached a point in society, where every winner is guilty, until proven innocent.

I thought his attitude was a breath of fresh air, but I can see where some would think he was hot-dogging and maybe be put off by that. As I said in the other thread. I have no problem with the celebrating after he won but in the 100M I had a problem with him chest thumping before the race was over.

I see no reason, to suspect this and surely we haven't reached a point in society, where every winner is guilty, until proven innocent. Do we have a reason? Seriously? How about pulling up 10 meters before the end of the 100 ... when the world record is still set. That should be enough right there. And when it comes to track ... you SHOULD ASSUME that the winners are guilty until proven innocent. That is the the way that all the drug testing programs are set up. Stride Length + Stride Frequency = Speed ... to the common person ... that means very little ... or means something other than what you seem to believe. Just because this guy is tall ... it doesn't mean that it makes him faster. His stride isn't any longer than any other sprinter who is world class level. Look at his record over the past few years. That should say it all (but again--the common person isn't going to make that realization). No offense to you Strike ... but the American viewing public actually watches/pays attention to track and field once every four years at the Olympics. Track doesn't stop in between. But when people live and die with the Olympics (which is what it definitely sounds like) they see things through very narrow eyes. The reality is ... most of the "heros" that we are seeing in all the endurance sports right now are doped to the gills. Remember when people thought that Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds were clean? Same thing. Well ... science has proven (time and time again) that the physical limits of the human body in the 100 meter dash is approximately 10.08. Even with advances in training (which really don't apply to track as much as they do with other sports) ... it would not amount to anything close to the improvement that Bolt has shown in such a short period of time at such a young age. It is commonly known in track/field circles that the overwhelming majority of runners are doped to the gills. Remember Marion Jones ... everyone said the same thing ... "she isn't taking anything" ... "she is just talented" ... blah, blah, blah. Next thing you know ... she is admits that she was juiced up throughout her career--and is currently spending 6 months in prison. The part that scares me is that people don't realize that the dopers are WAY AHEAD of testing/rules right now. (And they have been for a while). There is very little chance that so humans are able to perform at such high level (which is proven to be outside the windown of human performance). In today's day/age ... it is WORTH the risk of being caught for these guys/women. The money, fame, glory, etc. Keep in mind ... there is a reason why there isn't one live track and field event on in the Olympics (if you don't believe me ... look it up--none of it is live). It is much easier for NBC to control the spin in this manner. All of the "real" running messagesboards/websites are buzzing with talk about how doped up the Olympics are ... which isn't new. It was the same in Athens. If you don't believe me ... all anyone needs to do is look at the Olympic results from back into the 80's up to now ... and see how many medals/records have been vacated or given to someone else ... because the original winners were found to have doped at one time in their career.

Then according to you, Track doesn't need to exist, since the "overwhelming majority" you say, are taking enhancements. I understand speed and is why I stated stride length, plus his size may have something more to do with his records, than what you are assuming. I watched him myself and he did run the times, regardless of what science says. Now, did he take something, neither I or you know but I'm not going to suspect he did, because of his accomplishments. I don't follow Track and have no desire to, but in the Olympics he has achieved unparalleled success.

The knock on him is that in the past, prior to training period for these Olympics, he was lazy and didn't train hard. He appears to have actually worked to capitalize on his natural talents. What he did was phenomenal. I, for one, hope they test him to prove whether or not this performance was enhanced. I will go on the innocent until proven guilty side and just admire this performance until proven otherwise. I really question the '90% of all' track athletes are doping assumption. Where do these numbers come from? Also, where does the human limit of 10.08 in the 100 meter come from? I have never read anything like that before where science has proven that this is the limit. Every human body is different and this would be impossible to say IMHO. I also remember competitors just ripping on Carl Lewis when he was dominating the track and field world and setting records stating that he 'had to be juicing'. Here were are, 24 years after his best Olympic year and he still has his name in the books.
