The Dream Team would dominate in the paint and that is the big difference in the two teams.

That's the way I see it. They couldn't overwhelm the Dream Team with their pressure defense and that's really the only way they could beat them, IMO.

It seems like people are writing Magic Johnson off as some over-the-hill guy on the '92 team. He was forced to retire after '90-91 season. I won't argue that he was past his prime, but he was still playing basketball at an extremely high level.

The year before the '92 Olympics, his last in the league, he lead the Lakers to the NBA Finals. His stats?

19.4 ppg, 12.5 apg, 7.0 rpg, 47.7% FG, 90.6% FT

The guy could still play great basketball in 1992 and would be a nightmare matchup for the "Redeem Team".

Dream Team was my selection. If we had all 24 players trying out for the same squad, how do we think that would shake out?

After watching these Olympics, the gap has become closer I think.

I think it would be a toss up and would make a better series than one game experience.

I still lean towards the Dream Team but the defense that the Redeem Team played (PRESSURE) would give any team fits. Also remember how well they did against much better competition than the original Dream Team.

It would be a Classic. :thumb:

I just don't see the pressure defense getting to Magic and Stockton. Don't forget how good the defenders were on the Dream Team. They didn't play as high a level of competition and really didn't have to use pressure defense to win. I think if they were to play a game against a team with the talent of the Redeem Team they'd use a much more aggressive style than what they actually employed in 1992. They could afford to really pressure the ball with Pippen, Jordan and Stockton (who is the NBA All-Time leader in steals) because they had two of the premier shot-blockers of All-Time in Ewing and Robinson under the basket to cover them when they did get beat. They also had the ball handlers to handle the pressure and plenty of finishers around the basket. Again in a single game I think either would win but in a series I like the 1992 team.

50 to 5...is that a majority consensus?

I was thinking the same thing.

You are taking out specifics of the closest game the Redeem team had all tournament, that seems like a good way to judge them

It is a great way to do it. It is the only close game they had, so therefore, it was the only game that exposed weakness. They played a team that didn't turn the ball over and boarded well. They had to play a full game. It took huge efforts by Dwayne Wade and Kobe to win this game. Their guards were broken down off the dribble by the best guards they saw all tournament.

Now, do you think that Magic and Jordan would turn the ball over over more than the Spanish guards? Do you think that Robinson, Ewing, and Malone are less imposing than the Gasol's?

People are underestimating just how physical the Redeem team is. Sure they don't have as much depth in the interior as the Dream team, but guys like LeBron, Melo, Kobe, and Wade can rebound and bang with the best of them. I'd like to see a list of the rosters including height and weight. I'm just curious as to how the Dream team would blow them out.

It's just laughable and blind love that you guys think they would blow them out.

There's only a few that think that they'd blow them out. I think either team could win a 1 game scenario but I think the 1992 Team wins a series.

I didn't realize how old those original Dream Teamers were.

They had some age on them but they were very much in their prime for the most part. Malone(2), Barkley, Robinson, and Jordan (3) all won MVPs either in 1992 or after.

I just think that is an awful way to pick apart a team. They also handled Spain with ease in the first game, but the International game has developed so much and the Spanish team made some adjustments.

Do I think the Redeem team is better? No. I simply can't imagine a team "blowing out" them.

Point guard (Magic and Stockton) battle goes to the Dream Team.

Perimeter I will call even. (Bryant, James, Wade, Anthony vs. Jordan, Pippen, Drexler)

Post play (Robinson, Ewing, Barkley, Malone) dominating over the Redeem team post players.

Shooters goes to the Dream Team (Jordan, Bird, Mullin)

Bench to the Dream Team.

HOFers 10 for Dream Team, probably 7 for Redeemers.

Dream Team by double digits. 15 or higher.
