This morning on Mike and Mike, they discussed this and thought that it would be a very good game if these teams played. They both crushed their compitition and the international game is much better in 2008 than it was in 1992.

How would these teams compare? It could be closer than we think. Bird and Magic were past their prime, and some of the players on this 2008 team aren't even in their prime. The International game has changed alot since the 1992 team, so much so that the 2008 team does not have any "true" centers. That could play a factor if these teams played.

Comparing the rosters...

1992 Team:

Charles Barkley

Michael Jordan

Larry Bird

Magic Johnson

Patrick Ewing

David Robinson

Karl Malone

Chris Mullins

Clyde Drexler

Scottie Pippen

John Stockton

Christian Laettner

2008 Team:

Kobe Bryant

Lebron James

Dwayne Wade

Carmelo Anthony

Dwight Howard

Chris Bosh

Carlos Boozer

Michael Redd

Jason Kidd

Chris Paul

Deron Williams

Tayshaun Prince

What do you think? If these teams played, who would win and by how much?

Remember, consider these teams at the time they played in the Olympics, not when they were in their prime.

92 Dream Team wins, even with some of the players past their prime, they still win because of their expierience and Robinson, Ewing, and Barkley dominate the inside against Howard and Bosch. Besides Jordan, Bird, Johnson and Co. were better outside shooters than what the Redeemers are shooting these Olympics. Old Timers by at least 12 to 15. IMHO:thumb:

I don't know whether it's because of the international game "changing" or the fact that there aren't many top-flight centers in the rest of the world to have to match up with.

In 1992, Lithuania had Arvydas Sabonis, and Vlade Divac was playing for Yugoslavia or Serbia or whatver country it was at the time. It seems like there was another one out there at the time, but I can't remember who it was.

You might be talking about Drazen Petrovich...

The Petrovic that was killed in the car wreck when he was playing for the Nets? He was a guard.

I agree... It would be a blow out...

Wow. A Blowout? The 1992 was amazing and could very well win, but a blowout? I find it hard to believe that any team could blow out this 2008 team.

I don't think it would be a blow out, but I think the 92 team would win, even with Bird and Magic having some age on them. The size difference is too big IMO. Also the 2008 team does not have a Micheal Jordan on their team. Charles Barkley and Karl Malone were both in their prime as was of course Jordan, Drexler, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, John Stockton, etc. I will say that Lebron James because of his size on the perimeter and Chris Paul would create matchup problems for the 92 team.

No way they win by anymore than 10.

2 main differences b/w 92 &08, 92 could shoot and had a dominant center. 92 by about 10 points IMO

I would take the '92 team by 30.

I would take the '92 team by 30.

Then you would be saying this year's Olympic team was not much better than the opponents USA was playing in '92. We know that is not the case.

Both teams would create matchup problems. Jordan would be difficult to guard because he was in his prime and was, well.... Jordan.

Magic and Bird would not be able to contain whomever was thrown their way. I guess Pippen would try to defend Lebron? LeBron, I would assume outweighs Pippen by 30 lbs. As great of a defender Pippen was, he never faced a LeBron type player.
