Scott County - Only 2 Road Games - Show me the money!

Featured Replies

I was looking at the Scott County High School football schedule for this season and according to the KHSAA website the Cardinals only play two road games this season - at Lexington Catholic on September 5 and at George Rogers Clark on October 24.

Is this correct? Looking at last year's schedule it appears that Oldham County, Lincoln County and Greenwood are all making return trips to Georgetown this season. Can anyone confirm this? Is Scott County giving a payout so they don't have to travel? Is the allure of playing at a college/pro practice stadium that strong?

Scott County has been offering teams 5 to 7K to play at Scott County.

Where do you suppose Jim comes up with that kind of green?

When I have been there they have packed the fans in. Add to that I am sure they are generating some extra advertising revenue with the extra home games.

Although I can't stand the fact that Coach McKee is on the "kick the private schools out bandwagon" there is no doubt he is a smart man.

I also thought they would never play Lex Cath again. I am a little surprised to see that game

They Throw around some money to get you to play at their place. They offer good money to smaller programs as well.

Wow. This is every senior's dream to play as many games as they can at home. I just dont see how Scott has the money every year to pay teams to play there. Wouldnt it be cheaper on the team or school system to just pay for the bus ride to the away game? I believe this will hurt Scott in the playoffs when they have to go away and play good teams.

Indeed. I've been to three games there — one playoff, two regular season — and each time it was a huge crowd. They're not hurting on gate.

What teams should do is hold them up for a piece of that gate as part of the travel agreement.

Scott County and Lexington Catholic are still under contract for this year. I dont think you will see these two play anymore after this season.

Altho it may be smart in terms or one's record - do you really think it is that wise in the long run? What are you helping to prepare your kids for?

They did not fare too well as I recall a few years ago when they made it to the 'big show" and were dispatched -by the Tigers. This cannot be one of the Coaches who bemoans a 'level playing field"

Yeah, it sounds like they talk out of both sides of there mouths...In one sentence, they're critical about the privates advantage and then the next sentence, they want all the home field advantage..Sounds to me like everythings all good as long as it benefits them, but, cry foul if not...

This has nothing to do with crying foul. For Scott County, when you play an away game, you get 0 dollars from it. I'm sure they are making a good payday by having a home game even after forking over 5-7 grand to the visiting school. If they have the home crowd to support it, why not?

Blame the teams that agree to go their place for the money if you are looking to place blame. I don't see anything wrong with it though. Do you realize how much 5,000-7,000 can do for a school's football program? Many times, that is an entire year's football budget.

Some schools do not have it as good.

100% correct on all points. Its not like SC is twisting their arm and forcing the issue.
