This has nothing to do with crying foul. For Scott County, when you play an away game, you get 0 dollars from it. I'm sure they are making a good payday by having a home game even after forking over 5-7 grand to the visiting school. If they have the home crowd to support it, why not?

 

Blame the teams that agree to go their place for the money if you are looking to place blame. I don't see anything wrong with it though. Do you realize how much 5,000-7,000 can do for a school's football program? Many times, that is an entire year's football budget.

 

Some schools do not have it as good.

 

 

OH I see...its all about the $$$$$. How stupid of me to miss that obvious point. So that justifies it.

 

On any given Friday night - !/2 of the Teams are traveling. Guess SC is the only fortunate one to be able to have this luxury and advantage.

 

Too bad those other schools really need the $$$$$ - that they have to give up the opportunity for their kids to play at home before their families - friends - & fans.

 

I am not 'blaming" anyone. I am talking about a philosophy and approach that (at least to me) sends the wrong sort of message to the young men who are being molded.

In regards to his stance on public vs private, or in paying teams to come play at Scott County, Jim McKee does what he is paid to do........he looks out for the interests of Scott County football and his players.

I've never heard of a team paying another school to play football in NKY (bigger school's). Everyone wants home field advantage.

It's not like Scott Co is the only school that has a big draw on friday nights..I can see a few schools who don't taking the payout, because that's likely more than they would have made from a home gate and I can see them trying to get 2 yr contracts with both games at there place, but, for the most part, these would be schools that aren't competitive and have little backing..I can't see competitive teams accepting contracts like that, regardless of the payout, which makes you question if you want to play as tough a schedule as possible to prepare you for the playoffs or do you forfeit that part for the money...

I want to reiterate I think this is a smart move by Scott County to offer generous payouts and since it is voluntary I don't see how anyone can complain.

 

As the public/private issue goes, Scott County is a disappointment and given all the smoke that surrounds their basketball program most years I would argue Scott County is hypocritical on this issue too.

I think you missed what I was getting at. Lincoln has won 21 games the past two seasons. You suggested only non-competitive teams would be willing to sign a 2-year deal to go to Scott Co., and that's just not the case with LC.

Jim was an offensive tackle at Centre College and he is a smart guy. He also has always been extremely confrontational. If I am not mistaken, he has pre-filed more bills for the KHSAA member meeting the last 5 years than any other A.D. He enjoys Scott County being in the spotlight, he knows how to raise money, and if carrying the torch for the publics brings publicity, then it fits his style to a "T." He is carving out his own rep and persona, and if I know Jim (and I think I do), he could really care less what the rest of the state thinks about him. Edgy, but I kind of like it.

True. Its a great payday, a great experience, and it would be a nightmare and headache to try to host Elder. It has no playoff implication so you might as well get the most out of it that you can.

Publics (I'll generalize here) complain that kids end up at private schools and do not go to their in-district school. Recruiting gets used as a reason. SC's basketball team (while never being in trouble as far as I know) has the reputation of somehow getting kids to come to their school. Recruiting? No but no different than the great majority of the private schools. It might look bad to many but it doesn't violate any rules. It just doesn't taste right to some.
