So the first thing that comes to mind for me in high school last regular season football game. Playing a rival. It rained for 3 days before the game, so all day I'm thinkin' there is no way were gonna get this in... Sure enough, the rain stops at about 6 that Friday. Problem now is, we might as well have played in a mud pit. This didn't make things easier because we were probably a little smaller but a little faster. Anyways, we played to a tie until the fourth when they scored to take a 6 point lead with less than 2 minutes, but then proceded to botch the kickoff out of bounds. We ran 3 plays and gained a total of five yards and called our last time out with roughly 30 seconds left needing 5 yards on a fourth and season. Completed a 7 yard out and stopped the clock with about 25 seconds. Next play was about a 50 yard bomb to the enzone in the misty rain which had started to fall again. But missed the XP, so we went into OT, where we scored and made the XP to go up 7. Took them to a 4th down and about 7 when they caught a tipped pass to score. Were waiting to get into XP block and they line up to run a 2 pt conversion. So were getting in alignment and stances as one of the LB's getting the defensive call from the sideline and yelling it to us while still lining up at his position, all while the offense is already into their cadence. We got everyone lined up at about the last sound before the ball was snapped. For about the first time all night I got my footing well enough to get off the ball fairly quickly and slid into the C gap. At this point I had 2 of their linemen converge on me and lost my footing/balance, but had seen that I had chosen the right gap as the back had already slowed his forward movement and was trying to move laterally. Next thing I know I am face down in mud and all I feel is weight accumulating and falling onto me. I turn to my left to see that my eye level was about even with the 5 yard line, and then see the feet of the ballcarrier finally stop. And at that point I knew he didn't make the endzone. I slid out of the bottom of the pile and stood up and just began yelling anything and everything I could think in the direction of our fan section, which was already beginning to empty onto the field... This was the first time we had beaten this rival since I had been in high school. To top it all off, after the post game meal at the post game hangout, someones parents ordered a limo and we road around in it for about an hour. Don't believe that I got home that night until 3-5 o'clock'ish. It was one of the more memorable nights that I have lived.

Needless to say, that game and night didn't lack drama or excitement...I sometimes think that you could turn that one into a movie if you tried hard enough.

The bus rides. We were bad.... real bad:)

:lol:Bus rides were always the best... Only after wins though:lol:

I'm about to reveal my youth. 2006 HolyCross freshman team was 9-0 heading into the championship aganist Newport who we had beaten twice already very badly. From the time we all got up that morning to the next it poured. After two touchdowns being called back(one for clipping and one for a horrible call where our guy stripped the ball and rolled into the endzone only for the ref's to some how call a touchback for Newport, which prompted a ten minute tirade of all our coaches form the Freshman guys all the way up to the Varsity ones that were on the sideline) the score was 0-0. We start a drive on our 30 with a minute and 30 left and after a few real tuff runs from Markel Walker and Andy Roenker I was fortunate enough to catch two big passes on thrid and fourth downs for to get us to the 5-yardline on the righ hash mark. After a penalty we were at the ten with like 30 seconds left. It's a coming down in buckets and there are a few people on here who I know where there and will tell ya the same. After two botched field goal atempts, two Defensive penalties, and a run out of bounds it is 4th and goal on the 4 Our QB(Walker) Runs an backdoor sweep, gets firced to cut back 5 yards up the field, he has two guys standing on the goalline, he runs into both at the one and puches his way in with 9 seconds left. Missed the pat. We kicked a little dribbler down the middle on kickoff, a guy hits the ball carrier, we recover the fumble and kneel the ball on the next play to win 6-0 and go 10-0 for the season. Great fan support.:ylsuper:

When I was 9 years old.... I hit a hole in one at world of sports..my dad was my witness and it was amazing...so instead of buying me a beer for making the shot...all I got was a lousy lemonade while he got to drink the beer

I was the worst pole vaulter in Ky in the late 70s. Had a pole that was far to much for my 150 lbs to bend. We went against a school, I believe Menifee Co., who had a state champion pole vaulter from the previous year. He hurts his back in warm-ups and could not proceed and I barely cleared 6 feet to qualify...so I won the match. He was feet, not a foot, FEET better than me. He may have won the state that year as well. I was told he had one loss that year...to the worst pole vaulter in the state; who had one win which was evidently against the best pole vaulter in the state.

Senior Year Varsity Football -

Team was down 28-8 with around 8:00 to go in the game. Somehow we get the score to 28-23 and I score the game winning TD on a diving catch (dragging feet in bounds) in the corner of the endzone. Lets just say the ensuing kickoff/few downs of play were the most nervous of my H.S. career knowing all the previous said would mean zero if the other team were to have returned the kickoff or hail married one in.

No Hitter in Little League Baseball

Winning my first Little League Championship. - is nothing major now, but boy as a 10 year old nothing could have been better.

Went off in Intramural Flag Football at EKU.

Had 2 TD's receiving, one rushing, and two more throwing. For some reason I really enjoyed this game and have a lot of memories of it. (To be honest I think I enjoyed a few too many cold ones before the game and I was really pumped to play it so I guess just always suprised I done that good.)

Baseball District Tourney As a Junior

Knocked in the walk-off run....play was dramtic though because I had hit into the hole in short, the throw was a tad off the bag and high, so when the 1st baseman came through to sweep the tag I bellied up into first to avoid the spinning tag. I'm safe, run from third scores, game over.

What I cherish and think about almost more than anything though is some of the plays I made in H.S. baseball. I guess I was in the minority of players who always enjoyed fielding 10 to 1 over hitting. I took pride in my defense, and ended up making some pretty descent web gems from the 2B and SS positions throughout my career. Some of these catches helped to get out of jams, some to even help win games in tight spots. But for some reason, and to this day nothing feels as good as remembering back just the sounds of making a nice play. Baseball was a pretty silent game, but to hear a lot of ooooo's and ahhh's after making a play always made me feel real good, and for some reason I still remember a lot of those plays.

Hmmm, My senior year in high school we were playing Sheldon Clark (which was the #2 team in the region) we were like #2 from the bottom, well we were up 1 run with 2 outs in the 6th inning and they had the bases loaded. A Left handed hitter comes up and I was in LF. He hits a sinking line drive my way and I somehow made the "Shoestring" catch. It was pretty crazy, the crowd went pretty wild for a baseball game. We ended up winning that game. Probably the biggest win in my 4 years playing for the high school.

Mine happened last year. I made it past the local qualifying for the U.S. Open and got to play in the final stage (sectionals) in Columbus, OH. I played two awesome courses in the sectionals (it was a 36 hole event). I played 18 holes at OSU's Scarlet course and 18 holes at Scioto CC, which is where Jack Nicklaus learned to play the game. Scioto CC was also the host of some major events, including the 1926 Open, 1931 Ryder Cup, and 1950 PGA.

I also got to play with someone some of you may have heard of, Daniel Chopra. He was a really cool guy. The other guy I played with actually qualified for the Open. His name was John Koskinen.

It was awesome to see some of the guys who play on Tour.

I was state champion in the 880 relay my senior year at Trinity. My relay teams school record in the 440 yard relay and 880 yard relay will probably never be broken since they are in meters now and not yards.

WITNESSED & FELT

1A. My daughter's fastpitch softball team winning 2 state championships

1B. When my son's North Laurel football team upset Madison Central (Her-Leader called it the biggest upset in the state that season)

2A & B. My daughter's first over the fence homerun & my son's first varsity TD

PERSONALLY PARTICIPATED

1. Beating Rod Woodson & Chris Dishman at the same time in the 60meter dash at the Indoor TAC Championships at IU.

2. Setting collegiate school records in most of the sprints & qualifying for the college national championships.

3. Setting high school records in 3 events

4. Competing in the collegiate national championships (I can say I was smoked by some of the fastest men in the world, most of whom ran in the Olympics for their various countries)

5. My first varsity touchdown (1981 against Newport Catholic)

6. Beating former Olympian Ivory Crockett at the Mason Dixon games in college (he wasn't in very good shape, but I can still say that I beat him)

Now that's some impressive stuff!

Great story! You can always say you beat the best pole vaulter in the state that year!!! :thumb:

1. Played softball on a church league growing up--lots of good memories.

2. Played varsity girls basketball--most memorable experience was getting called for goal tending at 5' 2" that was a proud moment for me.

3. Played basketball in Madison Square Gardens for the Franciscan games--got to meet The Big O - Oscar Robertson.

Were you afraid that if you didn't put "Oscar Robertson" at the end that no one would know who "The Big O" was?
