July 25, 200818 yr Senior Year Varsity Football - Team was down 28-8 with around 8:00 to go in the game. Somehow we get the score to 28-23 and I score the game winning TD on a diving catch (dragging feet in bounds) in the corner of the endzone. Lets just say the ensuing kickoff/few downs of play were the most nervous of my H.S. career knowing all the previous said would mean zero if the other team were to have returned the kickoff or hail married one in. I remember it well...
July 25, 200818 yr Author I wonder if any of the sports moments we cherish have had the opposite effect on other members of BGP ? I bet a lot of us have competed against each other and don't know it.
July 25, 200818 yr I was in the 6th grade playing in a little league tournament somewhere in Indiana. I drove straight to the tournament from my family vacation in North Carolina, where I had been pitching to my dad & brothers on the beach, tennis courts, wherever. Anyway, we got to the tournament and my coach asked if I had been throwing at all. I told him daily, which was true. Anyway, one of our pitchers got into a jam in the bottom of the last (7th) inning. He had walked the bases loaded and there were zero outs. I was called in from the outfield to come pitch. Warming up, I bounced every single pitch. My poor coach was catching me while I was warming up and had to chase every ball to the backstop or stop it with his unprotected shin. He did both. After I threw my 7 pitches, he came out to the pitcher's mound (which was just a rubber) and asked if I was okay and to make sure that I had truly been throwing. I said that I felt fine. Today he admits that he was skeptical and thought about putting someone else in, but let me have a shot at it anyway. After getting behind the 1st batter 2-0 (with 2 bounced pitches), I proceeded to strike him out. I then struck the next batter out on 3 pitches for the 2nd out. Then, I struck out the last batter to end the inning and get out of the jam. I remember being so excited and sprinting back to the dugout. We ended up winning the game in the next inning. Our team went to the local Wendy's after the game to grab a bite to eat and kill some time before our next game. The home plate umpire happened to be there and congratulated my team and myself, telling me that was one of the best performances he had ever seen on any level, especially after a warm up like that. I was pumped. I think we were in the 6th grade - we were not a Little League team; instead, we pitched from 50 ft. 4 inches (I think) and in this Little League tournament we were throwing from 46 feet (I think). It threw me off a little, but I remember feeling like I was throwing straight gas because I was so much closer.
July 26, 200818 yr Finishing 6th in Ohio Track and Field Running a 4:09 mile in college Scoring 39 points in a city league game
July 26, 200818 yr I forgot going undefeated back to back years in minor league baseball. We were 36-0 and still the best group to ever play in our hometown. I also forgot all about playing the ex KY Wildcats on their tour where they play around the state. It's amazing how good they were especially on defense. I can't describe the pressure when they decide to turn it on and press etc. We actually played them pretty well for a little bit. My roomate at the time was about 5'5 and played point guard in High School. He crossed Shaun Woods over real bad and about made him fall as he laid the ball up. It was on after that. They laid the smack down! Richie Farmer sat out at half court and sunk 3 after 3. At one point he looked over and winked at us before he drained the next shot. It was a fun experience. As a fan I have experienced a lot like the All Star game in Cincy back in the day. I've been to Notre Dame on my 21st birthday, 1st row to OSU and some other cool games like the bowl games. We actually wiggled our way into a box last year at the UK/FSU game and we went to the Outback Bowl when Couch was there. There was no experience like being on the goal post for the Bama game though! It was CRAZY!!
July 26, 200818 yr One more as a coach was going to the National Convention. If you ever have the chance.... GO!!!! I ate dinner in a hotel banquet room with people like Joe Pa, Weis, Mac Brown, Tressell, Spurrier, Fulmer, Stoops, Myer, Bellotti, Alverez, Bowden, Richt etc all within a couple of tables away. It was an amazing experience! I got ready to get on the elevator and Jerry Jones was standing beside me. He had a belt buckle of diamonds that could have paid for my house!
July 26, 200818 yr Walking on the field Atherton soccer senior nite. Walking on Male's football field same reason. Coach Redmon talking about my son at the Football Banquet Nine year old making a diving catch to put his team in the finals....next night he got the leadoff hit and scored the winning run for the Championship. Playing in the State Baptist Softball Tourney and saying the prayer in all six games we won to win it all. Down 19-4 in the finals of a table tennis tourney and ended up winning. 11 year old asking me to throw the football this afternoon.
July 26, 200818 yr Hitting my first & only Home Run when I was in Little League against the best pitcher in the county. He was throwing like 70 MPH in 6th grade. I mean all you had to do was connect the bat with the ball & it would fly but still. The guy I hit it off of is a pitcher at Morehead St. University. His name is Quentin Morgan. Winning a District Title in Football when I was a Senior. - Set the school record for most kick returns for a TD in a season. Getting to play basketball at Rupp Arena during the H.S. pre-season when I was a Senior. Getting 3rd place in my region in the 100m dash running against Davd Jones/Belfry (now UK) who was in UNLACED HIGH TOPS!! & Chris Brown of Knox Central when I was a Junior. Also playing against Patrick Sparks & Company in the 14th Region Barn Storming Tour thing when he scored over 100 points with ALL 3 pointers! I forgot who else would have been with him. Whoever those seniors were...
July 26, 200818 yr Blah Blah Blah!!! You can thank the one and only Dave Cox for that championship! I still hate him to this day! Dave Cox.... that name rings a bell to me... I was playing in the intramural residence hall and he made a bogus call....
July 26, 200818 yr Hit the game winning shot against St. Pat's in the 10th Region Semifinals with 8 seconds left on the clock in 2000. Only to be out done by my teammate the next night when he hit a buzzer beater against Mason Co. sending us (little Brossart) to our first Sweet 16 appearance. Where we later beat Graves Co. We later lost to Russelville (with 6'10'' Tony Key). Our tallest player was 6'3''. Also played on the same summer league team with Erik Daniels my 7th and 8th grade years.
July 26, 200818 yr Dave Cox.... that name rings a bell to me... I was playing in the intramural residence hall and he made a bogus call.... I can't believe Dave Cox has been brought into this thread. That's a name I never thought I'd hear again. I won't comment on him but seeing his name made me laugh.
