1. UCLA vs. 2. UK

This should be a landslide victory if UK fans get into to vote on this.

We'll just have to disagree then.

PG - Anthony Epps vs. Walt Hazzard

SG - Tony Delk vs. Gail Goodrich

SF - Derek Anderson vs. Ed O'Bannon

PF - Antoine Walker vs. Bill Walton

C - Walter McCarty vs. Lew Alcindor

Sixth Man - Ron Mercer vs. Sidney Wicks

UCLA would have huge advantages at PG, PF, C and Sixth Man. That leaves only two positions you could even argue for UK and those are debatable.

The '96 UK squad would be lucky to hang within 30 points of a UCLA All-Star team.

UK in 96 couldn't beat that team. UK could beat any of UCLA's championship teams though, IMO. I still think they are the greatest team of all time.

Final round voting is open.

How much of a blowout?

Consider that Billy Packer said "It's over" early on, and he was correct this time. Kentucky got 73 percent of the vote, leaving UCLA with just 27 percent and another flameout on the national stage. It's almost like Luc Richard Mbah a Moute -- he of the three straight Final Four losses -- was involved. But he wasn't. Instead, the UCLA roster consisted of Alcindor, Walton, Ed O'Bannon, Gail Goodrich, Walt Hazzard and Sidney Wicks.

That's four former National Players of the Year and an unbeatable team, as far as I'm concerned. But Kentucky fans thought differently (or at least they voted that way) and in the process proved anything is possible when a massive fan base unites behind one cause and votes until they can't vote anymore.

Seriously, I'm not sure there's an online poll Kentucky fans couldn't win. With the proper motivation, they could get Ralph Nader elected this year, and I can't even remember whether the old kook is running. But it doesn't matter. If somebody pinned a Vote for Nader post at the top of the UK message board -- somebody like UK4BEN or BigBlue1121 or UKSmitty27 -- I'm confident Nader would be our next President, which would probably shock the hell out of everybody, Barack Obama included.

Anyway, the whole thing got me thinking. If Kentucky fans are strong enough to help their Wildcats win an online poll against a UCLA team featuring Alcindor and Walton -- two men who combined to go 174-6 in their college careers -- what other online polls could they manipulate in their favor?

I came up with the following list:

(All percentages are reasonable projections)

Best Band

• The Beatles: 44 percent

• UK Basketball: 56 percent

Best Food

• Pizza: 31 percent

• UK Basketball: 69 percent

Best Movie

• The Godfather: 28 percent

• UK Basketball: 72 percent

Best Late night Talk Show Host

• David Letterman: 38 percent

• UK Basketball: 62 percent

That's awesome!

I chuckled quite a bit on the UK Basketball vs. other things list.

I just couldn't believe how few UCLA fans voted. We all knew UK fans would come out in force, but it's like the UCLA people didn't try.

In the end I'm glad for the result, because it shows just how ridiculous these type of things are. This contest wasn't even fun discussion. The answer is now, and always will be UCLA. It's even more lopsided when you limit the rosters to national champion teams, given that most of UCLA's best players were on teams that won, and they of course have more teams to choose from. Quite a few very good players on the other schools didn't win.

96' Kentucky Team is the best team of all time almost without comparison to any other team.

UCLA All-Star Team prolly would have beaten the 96' team, but not to death when considering the athletic ability of the 96' team.

UCLA does seem to be the favorites in the Championship game but I wouldnt count out UK's team on any given night, this is arguable either way but UCLA does have more advantages on the majority of positions.

UCLA fans are horrible.

UK fans will dominate any voting or fan competition, because we take it personal.

The UK Basketball Comparisons above are hilarious.

But these all are also just imo.

I'm a huge UK fan and agree that the '96 club was one of the all time greats. However to dismiss the UCLA teams of '68 or '72 as not even in the arena is either insane or "youthful." Those UCLA teams had just as much talent as the '96 squad and played a fullcourt press that wore teams down. That's not mentioning the Alcindor - Walton part.

Think about it. The '72 Bruins had Walton, Keith Wilkes (aka Jammal Wilkes of Warrior and Lakers fame), Henry Bibby (76ers Starter) among others who played in the NBA.

I am a passionate Big Blue fan but not so blinded to make those assumptions.

I predicted in an actual game, UCLA would win. But this was a popularity contest and UK won because our fans care more passionately than the UCLA fans do.

However, I do find it humorous at those complaining that this was a popularity contest. OF COURSE IT WAS! This game can never really be played, but IF it could, it sure would be fun to watch (even though I believe the Cats would lose). I think the fake polls he came up with were hilarious and priceless!

I would hope that UK fans would be smart enough NOT to put Nader in the White House. ;)
