westsider
Hairston hasn't been healthy in a long time WS.Maybe so, but he isn't as good as he's been this year. Neither is he as bad as he was in 2006 and 2007. He's a 32-year-old utilityman, and those guys don't bring much on the open market. Heck, the Reds brought him in as a non-roster player. His value hasn't gone up that much in the last three months.

westsider
You would be surprised. I think two prospects is stretching it, but I feel a AA prospect would be worth the risk for them. I'm sure they are really kicking themselves for trading Carlos Quinten in the offseason for a single A prospcet. So why compound the error why trading a legitimate prospect for Hairston? ColonelCrazy
And if the Diamondbacks do it, I'm Brad Pitt ... Probably wouldn't, but those are the types of prospects I'd be looking to receive in return for Hairston. Max Scherzer is probably too good already, but you get the point... UKMustangFan
So if you're the Reds would you revisit a possible deal for Erik Bedard at this point, if you were able to do it without giving up Cueto, Volquez, or Bruce?
AverageJoesGym
I would offer Hairston to the D'backs for AAA pitcher Max Scherzer. And they would hang up the phone right after you got Max out of your mouth, you wouldn't even get to Scherzer.

There ain't no "probably wouldn't" about it ... the Diamondbacks would laugh you out of the room with that offer.

Just read where the Sox may be interested in Affeldt...Have you heard anything about that?
oldrambler
JMO but with the Brewers now adding Sabathia, I will say that the Cubs and Brewers will finish 1 ad 2 in the division with one of them being the wild card.
oldrambler
Mark it down the Reds will finish ahead of the Cards. Consider it marked.......:thumb:
LRCW
So why compound the error why trading a legitimate prospect for Hairston? Because they want to win the NL West, and maybe willing to overpay for guy that is having a career year.

I'm pretty sure that Strike3, spindoc and myself could climb out onto the branch with you, and not worry about a thing.

Affeldt is a free agent after this year, is he not? I'm not sure he'd re-sign after the year, so I'd be willing to deal him as well. Should be an interesting couple of weeks for the Reds. I think we'll see a lot of moves made in the near future.
