Its sports, don't get me wrong, I consider academics important, but the majority of college fans could care less about the academic side of it.

In general most schools do a pretty good job with kids once they are in, see the APR reports.

For example, Brian Kelly for UC, not trying to single them out, is trying to get a transfer in from Minnesota who filmed sexual acts on his cell phone and took part as well. He wasn't charged, and is not going to be charged for whatever reason...which bothers you more a kid struggling to meet the requirements to get into school, or a person who will be representing your school who seemingly lacks some general morals and doesn't seem to quite measure up on the citizenship scale?

I think what labs was referring to was in response to Jim Schue's comment that recruiting either low character or academic failures (due to a lust for a championship) can only lead to probation, and LABS is pointing out that recruiting an amateur porn star/director can generally be classified as low character- and I would say that someone who is willing to do that would have the character of a person who could jeopardize a program.

I'm not sure all the U of L fans were happy about that. I seem to remember that some of them would have preferred that they didn't go that route. I could be wrong though.

 

But, once it happens and your school does it, you just have to hope it works out for all involved...the kid straightens his life out and plays well.

According to a July 18, 2007 Associated Press story, Dominic Jones, a junior and one of the best defensive players on the Minnesota team, was accused of having sex with an 18-year-old woman who was “physically helpless” after a night of binge drinking at a campus apartment in early April of that year.

 

Investigators said that Daniels used his cell phone to film Jones having sex with the woman. Hennepin County attorney Mike Freeman said that Daniels, E.J. Jones and Keith Massey also had sex with the woman earlier that night.
