From what I understand, it isn't so much a single score, such as attaining an 18 on the overall test, it is the cumulative scores of the subjects assessed.

17 on the English part, 17 on the science, etc are all totaled into a cumulative score...this than correalates with your core GPA...higher your GPA the less points you need.

Reversing a D to an A in one of you core classes will impact your GPA, siginificantly.

I think the raising of the GPA is the key in his attempts to qualify. I don't think his last test was taken with his updated GPA.
