Thats true its a year to year contract, but from what I have been told is that Doug wants a promise pretty much.

Who would want the job? It would be temporary and no long term committment from anyone! Any one who has a stable coaching job and position in education right now had better stay put. In case we haven't noticed, every school district in the state is facing cuts and the possibility of losing teachers. I would not want to be an educator and my living depending on my teaching job but my future in education based on my coaching job. Promises---from a Breathitt County politician??? Doug has had promises made before---has he not???

How true this statement is. I would hate for my job to depend on coaching. Lets face it there is always someone out there as good or better and if you don't have continuing contract righ now you could be looking for a job.

I don't think I would feel comfortable with a promise from a politician. Promises are made and broken every day

:confused:Well I'm afraid that hasn't been the case over the last few years. For example, Coach Denny takes Breathitt to Rupp in 95 I think, fired the next year! One mistake follows another and another. They hire Jim Rose who was in the twilight of his career and really never could or did get anything going. Breathitt sank to never before lows. Then they hire Chris Baker, a good move by all accounts. He revived the program in a couple of short years and played Whitesburg for the title falling just a bit short and the next year getting beat out in a fiasco in Powell Co. Fired for his efforts even though the next year looked even more promising and 3 straight 20 plus win seasons under his belt. Enter coach Hall who had two great years with 20 plus wins and regional challenges and then a rebuilding year which was used to fire him. Enter Banks, who should have never been placed in that position imo. Now he's gone. Out of every firing and hiring above every move with perhaps the hiring of Baker and maybe Hall was political in nature, mostly driven by parents of disgruntled players or parents who wanted their kid's star to shine.

With all of that said I don't see it getting a whole lot better. In most programs if you win you can fend off the special interests. Not the case here, as evidenced by the firing of Denny! I'd sure like to see things get on a good track, but I don't hold out a lot of hope. And as someone mentioned, it's our fault for continuing to vote in the administrators!

Both programs need stability. They both have struggled lately primarily do to the fact that they have had too much turmoil and turnover in their systems. Hopefully, however things fall, both schools will find quality coaches that will be allowed to develop the talent in their systems for a substantial length of time.

Dan played in the 80's under Coach Charlie Turner winning the district a few times and being regional runner up. He later was the Assistant Coach for Tim Bobrowski, winning a district championship and Regional All A. He definitely has a good pedigree.

Well, good luck to him in his new position. I know he's wanted the job for several years, being a Breathitt countian, resident, and former Bobcat player. He's applied for it in the past, but not been hired. They're getting a quality person...dedicated family man as well as coach.

 

He was in their backyard all this time, but it took a while for them to notice, I suppose.

 

I just hope my Owls can somehow find a coach that will stay around for more than just a while. We need stability, and that can't happen when you have a different coach every year. I know for a fact that the elementary has a ton of talent on the way. Those kids were winning games last year by wide margins. The future talent looks promising.

Nothing offical just yet, but Doug will be Breathitts new coach next year. I guess they have to go threw the motions.
