Well, good luck to him in his new position. I know he's wanted the job for several years, being a Breathitt countian, resident, and former Bobcat player. He's applied for it in the past, but not been hired. They're getting a quality person...dedicated family man as well as coach.

 

He was in their backyard all this time, but it took a while for them to notice, I suppose.

 

I just hope my Owls can somehow find a coach that will stay around for more than just a while. We need stability, and that can't happen when you have a different coach every year. I know for a fact that the elementary has a ton of talent on the way. Those kids were winning games last year by wide margins. The future talent looks promising.

 

If they really liked Doug, they could just find someone to hold the seat warm...give Breathitt County a couple or three years and they'll get rid of him and you all can have him back.

I doubt that will happen-- with Owsley wanting him back--the community is not really happy about this situation. I hear that the folks in Booneville had been told this would never happen as long as the administration at Breathitt was as it is now. So they are just a bit dismayed!

I don't blame them...just saying, if they really want him back, the odds are more likely he'll be available within five years than the opposite being true.

 

To be honest, I'm a little surprised he took the job. But, as I said earlier, I understand his decision. There's no place like home. Perhaps the opportunity to coach his nephew for his home team and possibly win a region crown with him outweighs the risk of being out of a job when he graduates.

 

I hope Breathitt's powers that be do the right thing and keep him around as long as he wants the job. It probably won't happen, but you know what they say. There's a first time for everything...and Breathitt County's current powers doing something right would definitely be a first.

As far as I know, he still retained his job as the Transportation Director for Breathitt County Schools.

It is not about hiring a great coach or even about getting kids back into the school district that have gone other places---it is nothing but POLITICS!!!!!!!!!!!!All parties should bewareeeeeeeeeeee! Everyone will figure it out--but it may be too late for some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:fire:

This is the status quo. It should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Breathitt County. Their moves are always guided first and foremost by politics...everything else is secondary, if considered at all.

Here is what I have heard.

The Fugate family doesn't want Doug because that means Channing doesn't get to be the point guard and he will not play for Doug. He left the middle school to return to Perry County because they were not satisfied with Doug as a coach. The Allen family wants Ryan to run the point, so they will not be satisfied with having Doug back and Nick at the point. I guess it will come down to which family has the most influence. Fugate and Allen are great football players and they want to keep football on top, but Doug can bring Nick and other family members to help improve the basketball team. It will be interesting to see who wins the battle.

Sounds like the tail wagging the dog. Unfortunately all involved will be hurt by it all. I bet they don't tell Holcomb who to put on the football field and where.

I heard that a Noble, other than the current Board chair, might run for a Board Position--hiring a Noble as coach would prevent this from being possible---Another political battle????????????????????????
