Is there a reason (other than they wanted to save him) that Beechwood did not start Elliott? If not, let the criticizing of Meyerhoff start right here.

Any criticism is unjustified unless you know the circumstances. Elliott hasn't pitched much all year so there is obviously a reason for that. Not to mention he hasn't exactly been effective save the HC no-no. I'd say the coach made a decision based on the best possible information (first hand) and who are we to question that? Unless you're one of those know-it-all armchair types who forms opinions based on . . . well, nothing.

Which obviously you are not one of. So give us the "inside" scoop.

Armchair or not, Beechwood is now sitting at home watching. If there was something wrong with Elliott, then more props to the coach for not throwing him. If it was to save him for later in the tournament, then the plan backfired.

Obviously, Myeroff thought enough of Elliott to bring him into a tense, tie ballgame in the bottom of the 7th against the top of Boone's order. Whether or not he's had an all-star pitching season or not, he's still the best pitcher BHS has to offer and is coming off a no-hit game against a pretty good team. All I heard was that he was being "saved" to pitch in the finals against CCH, so someone must think pretty highly of him. No way does Boone score 9 runs if Elliott starts. BHS may not have had him for the finals in such a case, but at least they stood a better chance of advancing. You can't win games that you aren't on the field. Sorry to play "arm chair QB" since it offends some people, but I start Elliott all day long in this game and never think twice about it.

:thumb: There is no excuse Beechwood can use as to why Elliott didn't start other than that they were saving him. He has been pitching in big games for them all year, and this one was no different.

Now, if Beechwood would have won, Meyerhoff would have looked like the smartest coach in the tournament. But that didn't happen, and I don't know how anyone could look at Boone County right now and think that they could bring anything but their best against them and come out with a win. Very risky decision that just did not pay off.

Every mistake is costly at this time of year. Tough loss for the Tigers, especially the seniors. Thanks for the great years of baseball, Gohs, Miller, Elliott, Williams, Hadden, and Morris.
