Are the other middle school teams allowed to play "club" teams?

The reason I say club is because from what I understand is that they will be made up of kids from 3 or 4 schools. In the past these middle school teams would not even scrimmage teams outside of their own league. I think that they were limited by liability issues in regards to insurance.

 

They already do. New Cath has had a team in the Junior High League for a very long time. Guess you could call them a "club" team.

My understanding they will be part of the league making liability a non issue.

 

It's still great for the team and the sport. Giving more oppertunities to play football to young men is a great thing in today's world.

This is so great for the Cov Cath program. Now the 7th and 8th graders can learn the colonels system and sytem can learn who they are. The middle school league has really helped some area teams such as New Cath, Simon Kenton and Dixie Heights. And for a fact, I do know that the middle school league is very competitive. I seen some of play-off games last year, they were wonderful to watch. Very classy teams, coaches, and very complex league. God Luck!!

But not in NK. NCC is right up there but I know yous said Boone and Kenton. But HC isn't a complete non factor, I think they should carry the rivalry over to football soon. (CCH vs. HC)

My thought is that if CC does this, they'll be better, simply because the kids will get to play CCs style from the 3rd or 4th grade on. In addition, it may not draw a ton of kids there way, but, you can bet, it would draw 4-5 good, solid players a class, or 12-15 kids in the top 3 grades. That may not put them at the T and X stage, but, you have to believe 12-15 additional quality athletes would definately make them stronger and deeper and more competitive with the bigger and better programs. Then, if it is successful and the program does begin to show improvement, those #s will certainly grow and thus they'll continue to improve each year. This will not put Beechwood, Highlands, Ryle, NCC and the like out of business, by any means, but, it definately won't help them either..

 

This will affect the Spartans, Raiders, and BCYFL more than it will affect anyone. The chance to get into the system early will draw more kids. However, to your other point, I don't see how this affects Highlands or NewCath. There aren't many kids in Campbell Co. going to CovCath to play football. It's very rare for a kid from Ft. Thomas, especially, to pick CovCath over Highlands or NewCath.

Also, is it true that before the season starts all coaches have to submit their playbooks to all the other coaches in the league? The league only allows a 5-3 defense with no blitzing, is that true? A response to these questions from some one who knows for sure would be great.

 

As recently as 2 years ago you could not blitz. In terms of only running a 5-3, I don't know.

I heard through the grapevine that CCH's meeting on Jr. high football is Monday May 19th at 7:00; it will be interesting to see how many show up.

You must indeed run a 5-3 defense (2 ends, two 3 techniques, and one nose tackle) and there is no blitzing in the middle school league.

 

The current teams who compete in the junior high/middle school league are NCC, Campbell Co, Summit View, Woodland, Turkey Foot, Holmes/Two Rivers, Pendleton Co, and Newport.

 

I know up until about 3 or 4 years ago, the league was dominated by NCC, Holmes, and Newport simply because of the athletes at Holmes/Newport, and the size of the NCC boys.

 

Not sure of whether or not the start up of a middle school program by CCH will make as big of a difference as some think.

You are wrong on a few points. You can run any defense you want as long as you declare it before the season. There is no blitzing. Twenhoefel and Holy Cross are in the league also. Summit veiw has won twice and Turkey foot once in the last 3 years. I think kids playing together for 2 years will make a big difference they can start running plays on day 1 of freshman football.

I'd hazard a guess at like 10%. But I have no idea. But I'd say about 1 out of every 10 lives in Boone County. Now for how many of those actually debate between Catholic and Public schools, I have no idea.

From my understanding the Spartans are a club type team and are not an official feeding system. This gives Cov Cath true feeder system. What is the lowest grade level for Cov Cath? Where will the kids come from?

The Spartans are part of the NKYFL and they are not affiliated with any high school. Players from the Spartans normally go to Dixie, Beechwood, and CCH.

There is only 1 team in the NKY 7th and 8th grade league that has had any success, can you name that school? When I say success that means playing or even competing for a state title.
