I take care of the environment in every way that I can, and I donate a portion (not large enough) of the very, very little money that I have. Like I said, Iraq is the argument that stands alone. I disagree with you and respect your opinion there. I respect your opinion on everything, but if you really think electing a Democrat president is going to improve the economy, then you are wrong. Even if a Democrat gets elected, however, we are going to come out of the recession and people will give the President credit, but it isn't true, this recession will end regardless of who is in office (maybe even while Bush is still in office). But the economy will not be benefited by higher taxes. What recession? Has the definition of recession changed or have we expanded downturn to now mean recession?

May 7, 200818 yr So your saying your life has improved financially in the last 8 years? Mine has improved tremendously. I've only been married 6 years, but since getting hitched my family's annual income has increased by about 40%. Sure I would prefer to pay less for gas, and I have to keep to a strict budget each month, but I've never not been able to pay a bill. Financially, I have no complaints.

But the economy will not be benefited by higher taxes. Exactly! And that's precisely what happened in 1992 when the economy went south but began to rebound even before the election was over. But it didn't rebound fast enough to save Bush 1 from losing to Clinton. Clinton got a lot of credit for saving the economic state we were in, but it would have occured regardless of who won the presidency that year. In addition, I didn't think the media was very fair to Bush in that race. IMO they were extremely one-sided in their reporting.

If Obama can't beat McCain, Obama and Hillary will not be able to beat McCain. The polls floating around now showing that Obama and Hillary are invincible are unconvincing at best.

Mine has. 2 or 3 years back, I asked HHSDad, an accountant, to post what my taxes would be before the Bush tax cut and after. $5100 under Clinton. $2700 under Bush. My wife and I are public school teachers and based upon our income level, the Democrats have labeled us as one of the wealthy that received Bush's tax cuts.

The economy grew at a 0.6% rate last quarter and to qualify as a recession, the economy must shrink for two consecutive quarters. I wish that the media would quit polling people to determine how many believe that we are in a recession. It is almost like asking people if they believe that the earth revolves around the sun. If a majority respond "no," the sun still does not circle the earth.

You are right....some economists believe we are in a recession but not in the classical sense, and all say that they believe it will happen soon.
