As I said, if the argument is to test teachers because of providing the safe role models etc, etc, that is a fair argument.

 

If the argument is that the kids are getting tested than the teachers should to, is just ridiculous.

I have stated that for the cost involved, I don't see the benefits of the testing to be worth it. ESPECIALLY with the budget constraints as is.

 

Now if there is federal funds for it that could not be used in the actual educating of the students. I have no problem in getting rid of a few druggies from the school setting.

I have lived in Eastern Ky and in Central Ky. Drug use is a major problem at both places! Its a huge issue that is ruining a ton of people's lives.

On this belief that drug use is ruining people's lives, I have one question for you.......

I think it would be a great idea to drug test high schoolers.

A Lexington news station reported this:

Sounds like they want the parents to help pay for it... Do we not pay enough already to the schools?

It was mentioned at the meeting that if the grant doesnt come through the parents would be asked to offset the costs, would you rather have twenty bucks out of your pocket or a kid on drugs, seems like a no brainer to me! (only parents of students tested would be asked to pay)

Yes, but they acted as if the grant money was pretty much a lock. There are four Kentucky schools that are included in this newly applied for grant, Scott County is one...I cant think of the other three.

I can't say too much about this because this topic generally makes my head nearly explode, but briefly:

 

"Random" drug testing without suspicion or cause is inherently wrong.

 

No real proof that it is effective, as studies supporting it have traditionally been sponsored by??? The drug testing industry, which makes something like 1.5 billion dollars a year.

 

Even the American Association\Academy of Pediatricians thinks drug testing in schools is not a good thing.

Do you believe that schools should have NO rights to test teachers? I understand and agree that it is a bad argument to say that if the kids get tested, the teachers should too.

However, I do believe teachers should be subject to it as well.

Students- should not ever be tested as part of the school. I am a teacher and to be honest it is not by business, it is my business to teach this kid the best I can if I think he is on drugs I need to try and help him the best I can but.... there is a lot of bias already in our society and schools now we are going to label kids in another manner. As far as athletes, lets take kids on drugs and make it tougher for them to be involved in something positive not a very good idea if you believe as I do: Sports are a form of education.

I think it is a personal situation, that should be handled at home.

I don't need my kid peeing in a cup for a high school. I think I can raise my kids just fine on my own. And if I want my kids drug tested I'll take them to the doctor myself.

 

That is my personal opinion... I don't need the school intervening into my personal life.
