I never even came close to saying that. I said there is an argument for athletes and an argument for school personnel and they should not be connected.

 

Just asking the question. My answer is that if the faculty is not being tested then the kids shouldn't be. I do want to know if my kids are doing drugs, but I also want to know about the adults that are spending a great deal of time with my kids. We all know that most districts don't test teachers, so why test athletes?

At our school, EVERY ATHLETE is tested when they make the team. At that point, they are randomly tested for a YEAR. Meaning you make the baseball team and your name may randomly pop out in October of the NEXT school year and you have to pee in a cup.

I know of one kid for three years was "selectively" randomed each year. The same kid. So I didn't know how to take it; they were singling out a well known athlete or was choosing someone they know doesn't do drugs just to meet the criteria of "done" "no problems here" ?

 

I know a kid that has been randomly tested twice already this year at Somerset. As far as I know it is completely random here.

 

For the record, I have NO PROBLEM with this policy. I just think it should be expanded beyond athletes and drivers to randomly check a sampling of all students.

We implemented it here in Clark Co. this year. My take is who gets tested is not fair. I know it's against the law to test just anybody who comes to school but... I feel the way it is set up at GRC is only the people who have privileges are being tested. At GRC the only people who test are the athletes and drivers. IMO the right people are NOT being tested. There's my rant. :lol:

As an influencer of young minds you don't think faculty should be tested? I am only 18 and don't have kids but when I do have kids I should don't want them being taught by a person who lights up a blunt before school.

My experiences with it and the athletes on my team. A computer at the drug testing company spits out a number that is assigned to the kid. NO NAMES.

They give that list of numbers to the AD who then pulls up his list of athletes' names and numbers and has those athletes brought to the restrooms being used for the testing.

 

The random list is done by the drug testing company and they have no names with the numbers.

And as said, I have zero problem for me being tested. They ain't going to find nary a thing except medicine that I take.

Other than the fact they teach, coach, mentor, feed, and help prepare our youth for the next steps in their lives. Don't see a reason? Wow. People in pretty much every walk in life are subjected to drug testing. I am real suprised by your response.

This thought that a 50 year old teacher WHO IS AN ADULT EMPLOYEE should be treated the same as a 13-year old student is ridiculous.
