Not sure why you guys think it is the responsibility of the school to test ALL students.

 

I can see athletically the reasons behind it.

I am not saying that any school has to test. I am saying that if they believe a student is using and want to test...have at it!

I am with you on that one. I also believe that IF a school choses to test randomly then ALL students should be subject to be tested, just not those who participate in extracurricular activities. Sounds like that is illegal though.

I believe you are wrong here. It is just something not too many parents are going to go to the ice cream social or the LL game and talk about how they drug tested their child this week. Cause they are afraid people will start gossiping about it.

 

In the nature of my job, I found out that more are drug tested than you would think. Not all that should be. But more than I thought.

My high school had randomized drug testing for all athletes and trust me, it didn't make a bit of difference. Everyone still did what they wanted to do in their free time and plenty of them got tested and always found a way to still play...

I am all for drug test, however, I don't think it is right to just test the athletes. I think if a school does drug test, then it should test any student participating in any extra-curricular activity whether it be football, band, choir, speech and drama, or even the academic team.

I think the key difference is that if a person is high, in athletics they could end up hurting another kid with a hard foul in basketball, a cheap shot in football, etc, etc.

 

Not sure that could happen while playing the flute in band or laying out the art club page in yearbook.

Then for sure they should test the "high" divers.

I would be interested in hearing from those whose schools do random testing. How random is it? Is the star quarterback getting tested as often as a third string bench sitter?

This was Somersets first year for testing. They test all athletes and students who park on school grounds.

I'm pretty sure at our school (A Catholic School) they can drug test the athlete anytime they want to. At least that was always my understanding. I really don't have a problem with it as long as they test all kids not just kids playing sports.

Intresting. Always wondered since I have never seen it happen to anyone. Guess they trusted our class.

If hung over band directors can throw insturments during class, then why not a student hit someone over the head with their flute?:creepy:

I know of one kid for three years was "selectively" randomed each year. The same kid. So I didn't know how to take it; they were singling out a well known athlete or was choosing someone they know doesn't do drugs just to meet the criteria of "done" "no problems here" ?
