I don't understand the Pope situation, but I respect the beliefs of all people.

Bill Maher is a bigot and he is not an especially bright one. I am totally in favor of letting a miserable human being like Maher be one of the public faces of the "progressive" movement in this country.

 

Maybe Maher could be Randi Rhodes' replacement in Air America's lineup. I really hated seeing Rhodes lose her job and it would be a shame for Maher to be muzzled for simply choosing his words carelessly in describing the Pope. :lol:

I think we get offended far too easily in this country. I can vehemently disagree with someone but rarely do I find something that radically offends my sensitivities(what few there are).

He is lower than Rosie O'Donnell, he is toe lint, pond scum. Anyone in this thread who tries to justify it unfortunately loses all credibility with me.

If there's anything that sets me off, it is the unjustifiable use of the term "nazi." To say it about a German is a comment that carries a lot of baggage. It is not something to be said lightly.

Ted can be somewhat looney at times but he is definitely someone I wouldn't want to go against in a debate. Ted is very intelligent and very passionate about his beliefs. And right or wrong he stands by them. I would love to see a clip of him going against Maher. Better yet Al Franken

The video I linked to never mentioned anything close to A and B...as for C, I don't know if that's true or not...D is an analogy that gets his point across and E would probably depend on who you asked.

 

For the record...I don't think the Catholic Church is a cult. I don't think they advocate child abuse. However, the point is that it happened, and it happened on a fairly large scale.

 

Priests in the Catholic Church molested children...that is a fact. It's also a fact that nothing like what has happened to the "cult" in Texas happened to the Catholic Church. Why is that?

 

I'm also certain that child abuse isn't unique to the Catholic Church...it should dealt with harshly, both by the law and by the Church. The CC did not deal with this issue the way they should have, IMO.

 

That's just the way I see it. Maher made some interesting points, IMO...had the Catholic Church been more diligent in seeking out the child abusers in their clergy and punishing them by at least removing them from their position, then my criticism would be much less.

It may also be relevant to point out that Dom Imus wasn't let go until the advertisers on his show started pulling out. Imus wasn't fired for his comments as much as he was fired for public reaction to them.

Do a little research and see some of the other garbage Maher has spewed about the church.

How long is the sex abuse scandal fair game to paint an entire religion as a cult of pedophiles? I was told that the comparison to Southern Baptist's former support of slavery and painting all Southern Baptists as slavery supporters was unfair because it happened to long ago. When does the statute of limitations run out on this?
