I'm sorry if I offended the Borcher's fan club. I am sure he is a great coach. I've never seen it, but I'll take your word for it. If he ever wins more than 4 games in a season I promise to be there cheering and being all emotional with the rest of you guys.

 

I promise the next time I'm in Ludlow I will stop and salute the Borcher statue that graces the middle of the town square.

 

I will look in awe next time I'm at Ludlow stadium and see all the banners from what they lovingly call 'the Borchers era'.

 

I will look down my nose at schools that I consider not good enough for me to grace.

 

I will apply for jobs, accept them, and then quit the next day. When they ask me why, I will remind them that that's what all great men do.

 

So consider me a convert. I'm a disciple. I've drank the Kool Aid. I'm one of you guys now. So let's all go to Cooper! We will get ran over by Boone County this week, Ryle the next, and hopefully stay with 4 touchdowns of Simon Kenton the week after that. In three years when they fire us for not winning any games we will take our fight somewhere else. We know who the great coach is, who cares what the scoreboard says!

Getting to read this thread after all these years it is pretty entertaining.

 

Many in this thread knew how good of a Coach Coach Borchers is and could tell he would have success at Cooper, but the entertaining ones are those that stated it was a horrible hire (is that how you still feel eagle?) and others who I think should volunteer to cut the grass on Coopers field for the rest of the year...how bout that Sting?

 

In all seriousness though, I couldn't be happier with what Coach Randy Borchers has done since coming to Cooper. What he has been able to do with the restrictions of the school district and having no DI players has been nothing short of phenomenal.

There were several posts in this thread about what he would bring to Cooper, a couple talked about bringing a spread offense into 6A where NKY 6A was nothing but pund the ball type of offenses, and several others talking about what a great defense he would bring to Cooper. 7 years later when I think of Cooper football I think of their defense. Their defense has always been their strong suit. Taking undersized kids and getting the most out of them is incredible. His offense, he has brought the spread offense to Cooper and it's been a great success in a county that up until recently has only been known for running the ball. He has had numerous seniors each year go on to play at the next level but they always return on Friday Nights when in town to support their fellow Jags from the sidelines.

 

Coach Borchers is a no nonsense kind of guy who will tell you how it is up front. He also has an eye for the game that many others don't have. I can't thank him enough for the vision he has had for my son. When my son got to HS he had been a QB for the previous 8 years. When he got to Varsity he would be behind a 3 year starter at the position and Coach borchers saw that the athleticism he portrayed he would be best suited as a WR. My kid never played WR before in his life and went on to start Varsity every year he played Varsity and became a great WR who led the team his sophomore year in yds per catch and 2nd on the team in receptions. That only improved each year he played until he grauduated and went on to play at the next level where he was the only freshman on his team to start every game his freshman year. Coach Borchers is responsible for that. I've seen others on here over the years complain if their boy wasn't playing the position they thought he should be. I've seen members on here leave the boards because their son didn't get the starting QB position on Varsity. What a shame when that happens. There is a belief that coaches know what is best for your son and the team and Coach Borchers is a perfect example of that.

 

Coach Borchers, I thank you, the entire Cooper community thanks you and High School football fans thank you. Your list of accomplishments in a very short time frame since you've arrived at Cooper speak for themselves.

 

In 7 years of the schools existence here is what Coach Randy Borchers has accomplished. (All these have been done in the last 4 years)

 

3 District Championships

2 Regional Championships

1 State Final appearance

 

We knew it wold take time to get the program off the ground but I don't think anyone thought the turnaround would be this fast.

After the first 3 years Cooper had a W/L record of 8-22

The following 4 years they turned it around with a record of 31-20

Not too bad and all that can be credited to Coach Borchers.

Been quite a few years since this was brought up, but hopefully you are biting your tongue a little bit after making these remarks. Seems Coach Borchers has done one hell of a job at Cooper and made the right decision as did the school!

 

And those that said Scott would have been career suicide or would have been a terrible place for Borcher's to go were a little wrong too. While it would have been interesting to see what Borcher's would have done at Scott, those events eventually led to Dave Campbell taking over (and eventually Dan Woolley). Scott is no longer the doormat of NKY, and Cooper was built to a power in record time. It's always fun to go back in time and look at threads like this. This thread was started well before I found BGP and became a member. Thanks to KOC33 for bringing this thread back to life.

Coach Borchers certainly has done a great job at Cooper. I think maybe the best thing he did was to hire Bob Burnett.

Not sure how I missed this thread the first time around, but I as well played for Coach Borchers and loved every minute of it he is. Firery coach who does things the right way! Would I have ever guessed he would have this much success in such a short amount of time no not because of his coaching but because of getting kids to come out and buy into the program he likes to put together. I have nothing bad to say about coach Borchers from my time playing for him yet I applaud him and his program! Keep doing big things Coach whether people think so or not some parts of Ludlow are behind you and rooting for you!

Happy to say I was the one who broke the news(yea I was qwerty... And I don't know how I thought of that name). I've known Randy for a long time, played under him when he was a coordinator, and coached with him on the sidelines. No doubt in my mind that he was the best person for the Cooper job. He always knew what that school could become.. But it's still not where he wants it and it won't be until they are holding a trophy at the end of a season.

Sounds like you need more of a true apology to post now. Coach Borchers has done an amazing job Cooper! He was a great coach at Ludlow, and same now at Cooper.
