Who is the best coach in Men's NCAA Basketball?

I think a lot of people not too long ago would have said Coach K... I'm not too sure now however...

That is a tough question and probably changes from year to year. It really depends on what you are looking for in style of play and personality.

I think it is a 3 horse race...

Roy Williams, Mike Krzyzewski, and Ben Howland

I think Coach K has lost a step or two in the past couple years. He's either stretched himself too thin or lost his recruiting edge, but he's no longer the best in the business.

Ol' Roy or Ben Howland would get my vote, as well.

TWO YEARS? He won a championship (his third) in 2001, went to the Final Four in 2004, has been ranked in the top 5, at some time, in 9 of the last 10 seasons.....Roy missed the tourney what, two years ago. Ben hasn't won anything real, just YET. If he wins it all, this season he cna be brought into the equation.

Ben Howland. He's done a good job and Pitt and rebuilt UCLA in a blink of an eye. Three straight final 4's and looks like plenty more to come.

I would say Howland might be the hottest right now, but that could end in a flash.

i'll have to say the best one that comes to mind is Roy Williams.

Don't lie and tell me you haven't noticed the slide over the last two years.

Ben has been to the FF the last three years so your FF in 2004 doesn't really hold up to that. The 2001 championship was 7 years ago. Coach K has slipped. No other way to put it.

Don't get me wrong, Coach K is still one of the best in the business, but not THE best. He used to be.

Oliver Purnell at Clemson has brought that program out of the depths of the ACC and into a contender. Tough to do at a football school.

Rick Byrd at Belmont - dollar for dollar the best coach in college IMHO.

I was pleased with this season, they were overrated, over seeded, and they overachieved. Last year, they were awful, Coach K whiffed on a couple of kids, overall he hasn't though. Like I said, he may not be the BEST, but there are arguments for all, he is in the discussion, and has been for the last 17-20 years, no one else can say that.

You are way off on this one. Not only did Roy make the NCAA two seasons ago he has only missed it ONCE. That was with Kansas in 88-89 when they were not eligible for the Tourney. Not only that but this season marked the 19th straight season that his team has advanced at least past the first round. I don't like him at all but he is currently the best in the business.
