May 23, 200818 yr nothing better than a day on the lake:thumb:Mitchell's Bay! What a great place to fish. Been there many times. Do the game wardens still try to catch people fishing for bass out of season. It was a problem a couple years ago. It's a great place to bluegill fish also! (pounders)
May 24, 200818 yr Ohio river catfish the old school way. I got these 2 cats today fishing from the shore with redworms dug from my little garden spot. The biggest one was 28" and just over 7 pound. I got them and several good size freshwater drum and a couple of stripers just below the Greenup dam. the water was high and murky but the fishing was great.

It's a great place to bluegill fish also! (pounders) Didn't have any problem. We were passed by a game warden but they didn't stop. Sure is a beautiful place.
May 31, 200818 yr I went back below the Greenup Dam again today. No big cats this time though. The water is back down to normal pool and clearer. I caught several drum as usual. Also a few decent stripers but nothing of keeper size. Also some small sauger and, or walleye. I have trouble telling the difference. All on worms. I took my casting net for shad to use as bait but didn't have any luck there.
June 8, 200818 yr Adopted Admiral and myself just got home from an evening of fishing. I have a whole bucket of crappie and bluegills to clean. We had a good time!

That was fun...I think I caught One or Two...And Wireman caught like 15...:lol: That is the first time I had been fishing in Five years...Could be something I will get into part time...Trying to show my boy around to some new locations...
June 9, 200818 yr Sounds great. I find it's a great way to relax. I don't take it serious. If a catch a few that's great. If I don't, then it was a good day outdoors.
June 12, 200818 yr Author I spoke with a buddy of mne that had fished cave Run last week with a friend and he told me that they in a days fishing had approx. 100 fish! Now, the kicker is the fish ranged from Largemouth to bluegill, catfish and even quite a few carp. They were throwing any little topwater/propeller type baits right up against the bank, twitching it acouple of times and letting it sit......bam. He said that fish were up tight to the banks, and busting cicada's and if a guy got a small topwater bat (tiny torpedo type) up against the bank then it was a fish, didn't know what kind but all were slamming the cicada's.
June 13, 200818 yr Author A trip to the Ohio River (Greenup Pool) on Wed. produced several bass with around 5-6 keepers. Fish were caught up on of the main tibutaries (Little Sandy), the main river and for a distance in the tributary was still pretty muddy, the further up Sandy the clearer the water became. All the fish were caught on a small crankbait in clearer water a mile or two up in the tributaries. I would say that now the waters are clearing up even more and should be in good shape by this weekend.
June 15, 200818 yr Going to Bloomington, IN to do some rock quarry fishing. The quarries are overloaded with bass and bluegill. I have also caught one crappie out of there too before. They should be biting left and right next week.
June 15, 200818 yr I took some of my wifes nieces and a nephew fishing at a little lake outside of Flemingsburg this weekend. The small bluegill were hitting the pinches of nightcrawler rather well. For theses kids it was their first time fishing and they had a blast. They about wore me out, but it was worth it.
June 16, 200818 yr Author ^ Glad to see you intoducing younsters to the outdoor sports. Far too many kids these days imo do not get out fishing and hunting. I think that it may be due to several reasons. One reason being that the parents may not hunt or fish anymore so therefore they do not introduce their kids to it. Another big reason imo is the computers, PC and t.v. style games,t.v., shopping malls. etc.. Kids today just do not get out like we used to. I would urge anyone that grew up with fising, huntng. camping and other outdoor lifestyle activities to introduce our young people to it. Trust me, you will get a good feeling from doing it. With all of the anti gun, anti hunting,fishing media and other groups out there (that by the way have NO idea what they are talking about) we need to get these kids outdoors as much as we can. Even if you are an adult that has never tried these activities you are never too old for it and I am sure there are people that would love to teach these great sports to you.

Top water bite turned on at dusk and we had a blast. 4 pounder on a buzz-bait and a 3 pounder on a frog. We decided that it would be a fathers day tradition from now on.
