April 14, 200818 yr :thumb::thumb: Great job and kudos to you for taking the time to take your little girl fishing. I have found that it seems like the colder the weather the better the trout fishing is. I guess when they stock them in certain places, its really like fishing in an aquarium - which is perfect for the little ones. She had a blast, even though I had to bundle her up like a snow man. I was impressed that she reeled them in with an adult open-faced poll.

April 21, 200818 yr Author A very good friend of mine fished a tournament on Yatesville this past Saturday (4/19) and finished out of the money with approx. 9 1/2 lb.. The winning wieght on this touney was total of a little over 16lb. My buddy is still kicking himself he said, he went up the lake and started fishing a spinnerbait, caught a 17" largemouth pretty quick, another around the same size just a short time after. All the time he was thinking that he should be more towards the dam and in some clearer water with a crank or jerkbait. Well, he then landed a 5lb.7oz. Largemouth on that spinnerbait and that was it, he said that he was too stubborn to listen to himself and him and his partner kept on the same thing that they were doing. This tournament was won (with 16+ lbs) he said by a guy throwing a jerkbait in Greenbriar creek (closer to the dam) and in clearer water than they were fishing. Anyway, for the update fish are obviously being caught at Yatesville and one of the better patterns as of this past weekend were a jerkbait (suspending) or a fluke type bait around timber in the cleaner water.

April 23, 200818 yr Author ^ Great avatar OR... If I could have only one crank-bait in my tackle box,, it would be a Wart....:thumb: Thanks and I certainly agree :thumb:, as a matter of fact that color (drk brn crawdad/orange belly) was maybe my top producer, there are some of the original colors that are not made today, thankfully the one in the avatar still is along with the fire tiger and the green craw.. I cannot begin to count the fish that I have caught on ol' W.W. in my life. I still have several of the original warts purchased in the late 70' - 80's. They will still catch fish today, just change the hooks from time to time and keep chunkin' and a windin'. Cvillecat will tell you the same thing about the wart as well, he and I have loaded the boat many times with that bait.
April 24, 200818 yr Author Hey guys and gals, I guess that things are busting out pretty much everywhere. I got a good Yatesville report last weekend and now can report on the Ohio. On the Greenup pool this morning things were as probably as good as it gets! Two fishermen, over 20 keeper bass and many more non keepers. To say the very least.....it is "Right". Fish were caught in the tributaries and/or backwaters and sloughs and it really didn't matter which ones. A spinnerbait in white, chartruse (single and double blade combinations) were used along with plastic worms and lizards and all caught fish. Pretty much any channel bank with more than a foot of water on it, any mud flat (preferably with cover)......all were loaded.
April 24, 200818 yr I fished Norris Lake this past weekend and the smallmouths were burning up the white super flukes. We (father-in-law and I) had over 20 smallies between 14-18 inch range on Sat. and had 8 on Sunday. Water temp. was between 59-61 degree's.
May 3, 200818 yr Author The Ohio River, tributaries, backwaters and sloughs continue to be unbelievable fishing. Fish are being caught on plastics (worms, lizards), spinnerbaits (just about any type), shallow cranks and by flipping and or pitching. All of this week has been excellent with several limits, double limits being caught. Yesterday (Thursday) I talked to a friend that had boated around 20 keepers and said his best 5 would have been around a 15lb. limit with a 4 1/2 lb. kicker, !5lb. limits on the Greenup Pool of the Ohio are very good and will win or cetainly place high in most tournaments on this pool. Some 14"-15" crappie are being taken as well.
May 3, 200818 yr Just returned from our second trip of the spring to Pickwick Lake, Tn. The tailwater was on fire with white bass, hybrid stripers, and pure stripers. The main lake was a bit slower but the fish were quality largemouth and smallmouth. Link to trip report and photo page: http://www.bmustangs.com/Pickwick-08-Hagedorn.html
