June 29, 200818 yr Caught this guy on the Little Miami with catfish bait before we went canoeing.(I know its not Kentucky but it is the biggest fish I've caught this year so far so cut me some slack.) It's a carp, weighed a good 7-9 lbs, put up a heck of a fight. I love catching carp my grandma's lake in Prospect Point in Villa Hills is filled with them, just throw some bread out and they come a-running.
June 29, 200818 yr Made our annual trip to the Blue Heron Resort in Spanish, Ontario this spring for 32 days between mid-May and mid-June. The weather was challenging at best, with cool/cold temperatures the first two weeks with windy conditions, and continued windy/rainey conditions during the final two weeks, BUT the fishing was hot. Walleye (Pickeral) were plentiful. The picture of young Blake Beiting holding the string of walleye shows fish that we caught trolling in about the space of less than an hour right before dark, the crappie I'm holding is 14 inches - a big crappie by anyone's standards, and the Northern Pike that I'm holding measured 45 inches - one of the biggest pike ever caught in that area. Smallmouth bass are not in season until the last Saturday in June (yesterday) but you run across them occasionally and can't resist taking a picture or two before sending them back on their way. We caught hundreds of quality fish on this trip - all catch and release - with the exception of the walleyes which went in the frying pan, and every fish on artificial bait! You might recognize the Grizzly Adams lookalike as Georgetown College pitcher Ryan Anderson. Ryan had a great trip, was there for all 32 days and caught the two biggest smallies of the trip - a pair of 21 inchers. What used to be a cheap trip a few years back when the exchange rate was a buck and a half Canadian for a buck American, has really gotten expensive with the escalating cost of gas etc., but a great trip nonetheless!
July 13, 200818 yr Author Things were getting tough this past week. Grayson Lake was very clear and they were pulling water. A day of fishing produced nothing, not even a strike, the lake was close to summer pool with them pulling water. The Ohio River (Greenup pool) was tough as well this past week, fish have moved out to the main river but the river was high, muddy and running very fast. My contact was able to salvage three small bass and four sauger when going off the main river and back in the Little Sandy yesterday.
July 21, 200818 yr Some pictures of the stripers we caught this weekend at Lake Cumberland. Dad and the midget. Limited out 3 days in a row. Pays to have a quality fish finder.

July 21, 200818 yr Author Great pics Doc!! Thanks for posting. Looks like you had a great trip. I loved the one of the little guy asleep. I remember one time squirrel when I was around that age falling asleep under a big ol' hickory tree and awaken by hickory nuts falling on my head from a couple of squirrels cutting right above me and my dad laughing at me.
July 26, 200818 yr Author I heard from a buddy of mine yesterday and he had went below the Greenup dam on Wednesday. He fished from the bank on the Ohio side (I believe) and threw a 1oz rattle trap on a current break....3lb smallmouth, he continued to work the area and had a limit of good smallies plus a couple of small hybrids. I will try and check with him this weekend, he was going back to fish more for the hybrids I believe, fishrmen in another area were doing well on big hybrids.

July 27, 200818 yr Author Below the Greenup Dam the Ohio on Friday and no results to speak of....they weren't pulling/running much water and was not enough current moving to get the hybrids going. That's why they call it fishing and not catching. :thumb:
July 29, 200818 yr Got up early Sunday morning and took the boys out on the river. The fish were chasing bait everywhere. We were throwing top water, spinner baits, crank baits, and rubber worms, without a bite. We noticed the bait the fish were feeding on were only about a 3/4 of an inch to an inch long. So we down-sized our baits to 1/8 ounce white rooster tail and white beetle spins. We managed to catch four keepers, several short fish, and seven or eight white bass. Fishing is slow but if you down-size your presentation you can scratch out a few fish.
