I think Clay County may have been defeated in '89 by Marshall County but it wasn't the Richie Farmer team.

 

Farmer was a frosh for UK on the '88-'89 squad. He lost in the state final to Allen Houston in the '88 final after winning it in '87. :thumb:

08 Bryan Station. I think they just picked a bad night to play an off game. After seeing them play several times this year, I feel they were the best team in the 11th region, but just not on the night that it mattered the most.

Didn't Farmer have a younger brother? Russ, maybe? He may have been a senior that year, but Richie was in Lexington.

Any list would have to include the Lexington Catholic teams in 1997 and 1998, with David Graves, Shawn Fields and Co.

 

In 97, many of us were looking forward to a LexCath-Eastern battle in the state tournament, but Catholic was upset in the regional. The 98 team had to get by Pleasure Ridge Park on a last-second shot in the quarterfinals, then got beat by a Rick Jones three at the buzzer in the semifinals.

 

Apollo's 1978 team (Jeff Jones and Co., coached by Wayne Chapman) was undefeated going into the state tournament and had beaten #2 Shelby County in the finals of the LIT. Shelby got revenge in the first round of the Sweet 16 and went on to win the state title.

I have to agree with this, and if I remember correctly, many people in attendance thought PT outplayed Scott County in the morning session. Seems like SC may have gotten several friendly whistles to even make the night session?

Same here, didn't follow them closesly, but that team was pretty darn talented.

Graham, Green and Morton were sophomore starters on LexCath's 2002 state title team, but a lot of things changed after that. Danny Haney left the program to coach in Florida, and LexCath seemed a bit snakebit after that.

My bad--you and westsider are correct, it was his brother Russ Farmer.

How about Hazard in 1986? The year they got robbed versus PRP.

I didn't see the game, but I've heard a lot about it. It's ironic though...

The 1956 Wayland team had King Kelly Coleman and was 35-4 entering the tournament. They lost to eventual state champion Carr Creek in the semifinals. King Kelly scored 50, 39, and 28 points in the three games and then scored 68 points against Bell County in the third place game, won by Wayland 122-89

 

The 1978 Apollo team had Jeff Jones (U. of Virginia) at guard and rolled through the season with a 35-1 record. Their Sweet 16 reward? They drew eventual champion Shelby County in the first round and lost 62-55

 

I also thought the 1983 Carlisle County team was one of the best to play at Rupp.

Just looking at it, this years Holmes team will end up with at least 4, maybe 5 DI players on the roster.
