BTW - what were the technicals for?

 

The technical on Paintsville was apparently for throwin an elbow at a Holmes player and then jawing with the Holmes player and official after the foul was called. Very classless IMO.

 

I was told before the game that Paintsville was a dirty team and I guess they didn't disappoint.

Credit should go to Coach Henley and his staff and Arrez's leadership of this team for not responding to the cheap stuff at the end. I'm sure the reaction from the Holmes team at the end of the game would have been a lot of different last year.

That was tricky!

I wondered how that happened.

First off, Congrats Holmes and good luck the rest of the way. Second, Paintsville is not a dirty team, the first intentional foul was not an intentional ,just a hard foul on a break away. Bundy was clearly going for the ball and when two players are going full speed there is going to be hard contact.

Paintsville missed a lot of free throws that is unusal for them and din't shoot well for what they usually do. I know most of it was because of Holmes defense but we did miss a lot of open looks, too.

 

Good luck Holmes. Congrats Tigers on a great season, Congrats to Coach Runyon on a wonderful 27 years. He put Paintsville on the basketball map.

Paintsville was counting on Holmes to respond in a negative way as they pushed and shoved them the whole game. It never happened. Holmes came to play basketball and that's exactly what they did. I really looked forward to this game because of the scrappy way Paintsville played last night but I was completely disappointed with them after today. Good luck to Holmes the rest of the way. They play hard and with class.

Of all the basketball games I have seen in my lifetime, I can count on one hand the number where things got so rough that players were in serious danger of physical injury. This was the worst of that handful. Paintsville may be a solid basketball team - it's hard to tell if Slone is a player because he just did not get any touches, thanks to Arrez - but it is impossible to judge their ability when there are so many cheap shots, offensive foul "flops" and thuggish fouls that kids may not get up from.

 

IMO the officials did let it get out of hand. Thankfully it ended before any bones were broken or blood spilled - but it was getting there in a hurry at the end. Great job, Bulldogs, in maintaining your composure through all that.

 

One more thing - it got ridiculous in the second half that as soon as Arrez got the ball and made a move to the bucket, Paintsville guys started floppin' to the floor like out of water catfish.

That is amazing that Paintsville's game plan was to attempt to start trouble... The boys from COV., know how it is and have played that way most of their careers... Tough one in the AM though...

Just got word back from my Pops in the stands. He said that Paintsville lost its composure and started getting dirty. He said that Holmes did a great job keeping their compsure. In my opinion, Paintsville's coach needs to smack down on that.

I really hate to see their Coach leave like that. After watching them wednesday, I thought, what a nice Team. But after today, not so nice. Shame on them for trying to bait the superior Team. I'm glad this wasn't last years Holmes Team they were playing. Had it been, some of those Paintsville players would of been ten rows deep, and visiting their dentist. Has this always been their style of play?
