New Coach at Walton-Verona

Featured Replies

You guys make it sound like people are beating the AD's door down for the chance to coach freshmen girls' basketball.

All I'm saying is the head coach should have a say on who are the assistants. Getting people to coach these positions will not be a problem.

Quality is a key word you left out.

The baggage I was refering to is some of the upperclassmen (and their parents) who think that just because they are a junior or senior, that they should be starting or playing the majority of the minutes. That could be a major distrction to the team in the next couple of years. I think if either was the coach at WV, they would put the best team on the floor, even if it meant cutting some of the upperclassmen.

I agree, it could be a major distriction if it's allowed to be. A good, solid coach would not be dealing with some of the same issues that had to be dealt with last year because they just wouldn't allow those distractions. Either get with the program or get out of it.

And then your run the perception of people leaving your program like it is a sieve.

It is a hard balancing act. Trust me, been there and done both.

Well said. If either Richey or Wilhoit were interested, they would take care of that.

Agreed, but you have to have a quality coach in place to displace those distractions. If that is not the case you are inviting what you got.

I am glad Wilhoit is not interested.

Please explain. As a W'town fan, he seems to get a lot out of his players. IMO, he has 3 players that could play for other schools, but they continue to work and play hard all of the time. Maybe WV needs someone like.

I just can't see him coaching at Walton. Don't see him being dedicated enough to the program. I know he also coaches softball for Williamstown. Heard they hardly ever practiced last year. Maybe basketball is different but I doubt it.

I hope that is not true. That would be a huge blow to all of basketball both boys and girls if this gentlemen left. If I were the Admin @ Walton he would get what ever he wanted. HE IS THE REASON that the feeder program Walton has is so successful:thumb:

Couldn't agree more!! If it weren't for the efforts and vision of this person, Walton is a perennial door mat. Walton will soon begin reaping some major benefits stemming from the system this person has established.

Unsure where you get your info, but he is very dedicated to the programs. I can't respond as much on the softball side, but I don't recall very many days off on the basketball court though. Surprising comment. Do you know him?

IMO he is just not a good prospect. I want someone that I know that will come into Walton and turn things around. Don't think he has enough time and dedication. Seen him coach basketball and softball.

Why? Never mind. You all ready answered it.

Why?

Watched him coach basketball and softball. Not impressed.

Even though I don't think he is interested in the job, he would be a good choice. I'm just talking basketball since this is the thread. I know for a fact that he has high expectations for his girls and he puts in alot of time. If Walton could get him, they would have a fine coach. He wouldn't put up with the whining parents and he would let the administration know where he wants to go with the program. He makes the most of what he has and unfortunately he hasn't had alot at Williamstown.
