Some things happened after the Ryle-Highlands freshman game that upset Dale enough to call his entire program(Freshman included) to midfield for a little pep talk. Keep in mind Bluebird fans, the Herbstreit is OH vs. the USA; last season you were part of the USA(like CovCath is vs. Cardinal Mooney); they invite different teams every season; CovCath will not be invited back next season, nor will the Bluebirds more than likely.

 

There have been some rumblings on BGP that Louisville St. X is going next year; I don't know if it's official.

Cardinal Mooney always has a mean team. There not as good as a Colerain but better than a LaSalle usually. If I'm not mistaken they have been to the D IV state championship 3-4 times in the last 5 years. CovCath will have their hands full.

 

The Colonels will indeed have their hands full. Per the Massey Ratings. Mooney would have beaten Trinity by 5 points last year and CovCath by 32.

 

Mooney blanked Bishop Watterson last year 28 - 0 in Columbus. Watterson recently gave CovCath all kinds of trouble in the two games CovCath played them.

 

CovCath's schedule will be among the toughest in the state.

With Mooney being Division IV, I am thinking that CCH is larger male student-wise? Given that CCH has played some of the Ohio DI schools very tough, I would like CCH's chances with a much more even playing field (regarding school size).

 

Also, did CCH just have this week open all the time, or did they have to cancel a previously scheduled game to accommodate this? I didn't realize that CCH had an open game this late in the process.

Who is North Hopkins. Any information on them? Are they pretty good?

It's Madisonville-North Hopkins, and they are a Class 6A team. I noticed that they went 5-5 in 2007, and did not make the playoffs.

 

On the face of it, it seems like an odd match-up for the two teams. I wonder if there is some coaching staff connection or something.

Mooney at one point last year was ranked in the top 15 in the country. Sounds like they lost some key players but will be strong. I talked to my friend who has ties with OSU, said Mooney is sending the best DT in Ohio to OSU after next year.

 

I really like CCH. What all do they have coming back on the line and at RB. Few years ago I thought they were awesome. CCH is always competitive.. this game should make the 4 hour dreaded drive worth it.

Youngstown Cardinal Mooney is a tremendous program in Ohio. Covington Catholic will indeed have their hands full with this team. The DT that has committed to OSU is the real deal. They lost a lot of great players but still have some great athletes returning. I believe that this smaller school will surprise the CCH faithful!!

I don't see how a team that would have been favored over Trinity last year will surprise anyone. The 2007 Mooney team would have been a 20 point pick over the Trotwood Madison team that played Highlands within 4 points. CovCath will be a heavy underdog in this one.
