Baseball players don't practice or scout the other team?

No I didn't say they didn't but as you said they are usually playing games mostly every day. You all use that to try to prove why Cal's was better. My point was even though Favre didn't play as many games. He was still working for about 180 days once training camp started. So every day would be taking a toll on an NFL QB, just like a player playing a baseball game almost every day. Then add to the fact that when NFL does play its game once a week. It is the most brutal sport there is, and a lot better chance at injury.

They do. But I would say the difference is night and day.

I know and I agree 100%. Just throwing it out there.

I just think Cal's is more impressive, no real rhyme or reason behind it.

Football also doesn't have a DH.

Not sure where you are going with this?

And I can never remember Favre just going out for one play then sitting on the bench to continue his streak.

I'm not going to get into the arguement over which sport is tougher and which is harder. I'm going with Favre just because of this. Ripken played a lot of games just because of the streak and would've been better off riding the pine from the beginning of the game if he was just going to have a start for the sake of the "streak".

I think their desire to play everyday was probably harmful to both their teams at times during the long run. Ripken likely would have been a better performer had he occasionally took the night off. There were some down years in Green Bay that the club might have been better in the long run had he took a couple nights off.

It's not as brutal as what Favre went through. Football is a painful sport, and Favre played through a ton of bad injuries.

Ripken, like some already mentioned, would play just to keep his streak going, then sit on the bench.

Once again, it's an easy choice for Favre.

It's an easy choice for me also, Ripken.

Not sure where you are going with this?
Ripken kept his streak alive by DH'ing several games. It would be the equivalent to Favre just coming in and doing running plays only instead of staying in the pocket and passing.

You can't compare across the two sports so you have to look inside each sport:

Favre's record of 253 straight games (almost 16 seasons) is more than double the previous record of 116 by Ron Jaworski. Payton Manning has since passed Jaws and is currently at 160 and only 5 players have EVER had a streak of over 100.

Ripken's record of 2632 (almost 17 seasons) straight games is 502 games more than Gehrig's 2130. Ripken is one of only 7 in MLB to have streaks of over 1000. (Note: Hideki Matsui and Kaz Matsui have streaks of over 1000 if you combine their streaks from Japan and MLB. Also, including the Japanese league there would be 14 total players with streaks of 1000 or more).

Just looking at that, I would say Favre. Add in the fact that football is much more violent and that the defense's goal is to hit the other team's QB and knock the other team's QB out of the game only adds to it.

This is a great question, problem is, I still feel it's CAL.

Speaks of the tremendous toughness of each. One plays almost daily and doesn't have the physical contact, the other has.

Ripken played through pain, slumps and ailments. Favre obviously did the same. I would say a consecutive streak in Football, from a QB who is constantly harassed, hit and knocked down is the most impressive....that is from Baseball man.

I don't mean to diminish what either have done but the NFL, is a collision sport.

Favre #1 and Ripken "#1A"

I was torn between the two until STRIKE3 said it was Favre. He is a baseball genius in my eyes. He had an opportunity to pick a baseball player but he didn't.

Enough butt-kissing, Favre played FOOTBALL Ripken played baseball. Baseball is the greatest sport in the world but the only physical harm that could equate to a sack would be a home plate collision.

Tough, tough call.

Ripken kept his streak alive by DH'ing several games. It would be the equivalent to Favre just coming in and doing running plays only instead of staying in the pocket and passing.
