Well, it depends on what Goldberg said. But, right off the bat, trying to get into peoples minds associating someone's name with both radical Islamic groups and a dictator is different from using colorful language to describe an unpopular president.

 

So actually exhibiting hatred is OK, but trying to arouse hatred in others is unacceptable? Your bias is blinding you; they're both reprehensible.

I didn't see it, but it sounds pretty ignorant on the part of Mr. Cunningham.

It's not what he was saying. It's why he was saying it. He was playing up the fact that most Americans, or at least the ones he was talking to, probably hate him or dislike more than they normally would because of his middle name. Sad, but true. It's not a big issue, but obviously McCain felt it was necessary to apologize for it.

I do agree that once again Willie showed himself to be a fool, but anyone that gets worked up with what Willie says is likewise a fool. McCain did the right thing by apologizing and diffusing the issue.

I realize it's the same name, but was Saddam that famous when Barack was born? It's not like he was named after him. Some people are...never mind.

Hussein is also a very common first name for Muslims.

Not defending what Cunningham said but how is it any worse the the profanity laced tirade of Woopie Goldberg (I believe) when she introduced Kerry during the 2004 campaign. As I recall she derided GWB fairly harshly and with lots of colorful metaphors. I don't remember anyone apologizing for her offensive remarks.
