Way off subject here.

 

I wasn't there last night, but the "if you don't like the officiating, do it yourself" is stupid logic (I would use much stronger language if I could). Granted basketball is a tough game to officiate. Maybe the most difficult. However, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect those that agree to do it to actually be able to do it.

 

9th region officials are terrible. Maybe everywhere in the state high school officials are terrible, because good ones rise through the ranks to college. However, just because they are the best available doesn't make them any less bad.

 

You may consider it stupid logic, but if you don't like what is going on than is it better to do something about it or just sit and type and complain??? You are correct it is a difficult job that is why only a certain few choose to do the job!! So, in my stupid logic I guess that I will support the stripes that choose to do the job rather than beat them up.

Give me a break on the banter about the officiating!! NCC hung in there for a little while, then the Birds got after it and pulled away! The officials had no say in the outcome of the game, so don't even go there!

Now the birds have to get over the win and get ready for the next one! They have an athletic team coming to the Birdcage tomorrow night! Still have to win this one to get to the region!

I can see why no one would want to believe that a ref would do it, but they do. I can also see why no one would want to believe that there was such a thing as Operation Northwoods too, but there was. A ref doesn't have to do it the whole game. It only takes a few key minutes in a game to sway it until the damage is done and then they can just let it roll from there to keep it from being obvious.

 

Now you can all go ahead an call me a conspiracy theorist. It may not sound like an objective observation to most of you, but it does to me and I'm not saying that it happens all the time. Some bad calls are just flat out bad calls that can be attributed to human error. Some just can't be as easily defined as such.

On a side note, it was funny looking at NCC's bench to see 6 coaches and 6 players...

I honestly left early in the 4th period. I wasn't there to root for either team. I thought I'd see a good game. It was... until...WAY too many bad calls in succession took all the heart out of the game. These kids deserved better for all their hard work all season long than to have 'momentum swing games' being played by the judges. Did I just say that? Yes, I did. I've seen it many times before and I'm seeing it while rooting for no particular team. It was apparent that NCC was holding their own and even on an upswing with Libscomb back in the game, but nab him instantly with a terrible charging call and an awesome basket taken away in the process that led to ugly Bird missed walking calls left and right pushing the Birds to taking a 10 or so point lead to put it out of reach in a low scoring affair. Sure, Simpson and crew came out to play stronger in the 2nd half, but by the time all the blindness had subsided the damage was done. That's the vibe I got from the whole thing. Sorry to rain on anyone's parade. In an important game like this and mostly for the kids... as well as the 9th Region fans as a whole, they/we truly deserved better. :eek:

Don't hang your heads Breds cause I know you came to play and did a darn good job. It's just too bad you had the wind taken out of your sails.

 

I have to disagree with you here. Hurtt made an awful pass that was picked by Lipscomb and he hustled his butt to the block and was waiting on Lipscomb. That was the correct call as he was there waiting for him and Lipscomb made a nice play but the correct call was made. There were some travels missed but NCC had no answer for Highlands in the 2nd half. Games are not over after the 1st or 2nd period. They are over when the final horn sounds and NCC played valiantly in the 1st half but Mr. Simpson toying with the NCC Defender with 30 seconds left was the momentum the Birds needed going into halftime.

 

My analysis of the game was McGraw owned the first half offensively as he just dropped 3-balls at will. The Highlands defense was swarming on the NCC guards and they couldnt get a shot off. I was surprised NCC didnt utilize more offensive sets. They depended too much on lobbing to Geisler and it worked a few times but you cant come down the floor everytime and do that. Pangallo had some nifty moves in the first half but he was overmatched and is still young. He wore down and they didnt give him enough blows in the game. I was impressed with NCC's rebounding ability and their true grit. I felt bad for Lipscomb at the end when Brannen took him out with 3 min left to end his HS career. If that was me I sub in 4 guys and leave him on the floor to finish. He was hustling all night long.

 

The Birds really played excellent team ball in the 2nd half making the extra pass and converting several uncontested layups. I thought Nic Simpson played mediocre at best and it could have been due to the injured hand. He tries to make plays in traffic a little too much and with McGraw and Kowolonek on the floor he needs to kick it out when it isnt there. Eaton played a great game and Grote/Watson played some nice defense as well. The Birds were really clicking in the 2nd half and that is a good springboard for their next matchup with Newport.

 

One thing I didnt agree with though was Willie having Nic and McGraw in the game up 25 with 4 minutes left. You take a huge risk of injuring your stars when you do that. He should have emptied the bench at that point and let the JVers play it out. Brannen conceded with 3:30 left in the game and he went to the bench. I dont think Willie did until maybe 2 minutes. But overall a very good game to watch in a hot steamy atmosphere.

I was there and the officials didnt affect the outcome of this game. Has there been any other NCC fans posting on this thread crying in their milk? I havent heard many.

 

If anything, Willie could have buried the Breds by 30+ if he wanted to. It was getting ugly right quick and he called the dogs off going to a spread set with a lot of passing and cutting. I think Willie has much respect for the NCC kids and coaching staff to know when to say when.

 

Bottom line, NCC got tired and worn out. They dont have much of a bench and I thought the Meyer boy could have come in and spelled Pangallo a little. He played well the final minutes of the game when he was on the floor.

 

One last thing, this is a great rivalry and I am glad both teams are in the same district. It wont be a 20 pt Bird victory every year so Highlands fans better not get used to this type of a victory. Next season I am sure the Breds will be hungry for payback.

As for the charge call, I had two former head varsity basketball coaches next to me who both said it was the correct call. B-Ball-Fan, your conspiracy theory is comical...

If NCC converts their second/third/fourth chances in the first quarter, they possibly have an 8 pt lead and it's a different ballgame. Both teams start out ice cold. Putting the little Pangallo on McGraw?? Nada! Greg is the POY but won't get it due to a bias toward his injury/downtime...a shame, he deserves it! Back to the game. Nic Simpson being back was nice to see...especially in the second half when he decided to turn up his defensive intensity. Ben Watson came off the bench and did a good job changing NCC's lob strategy. Zach Hurtt played a wonderfully selfless game...defense and assists! Eaton was the unsung warrior...his game doesn't show up in the scorebook but it's the real glue to this team! But my difference maker to this game goes to...the HHS bleacher creatures!! Student body showed up strong! White out theme looked cool! I challenge them to show up for the Newport games (yes, games ! They stuck around for a great girl's contest, too!!) Great season NCC! Go Birds!!

I don't know if the Thunder sticks were taken away or what, but you can not use artificual noise makers during the game. I'm sure that had something to do with them being asked to get rid of them.

I forgot to mention the same DMZ. Congrats to the Student body for coming out and making it fun for everyone. I saw alot of the football players in the stands cheering on their classmates which is really cool. I saw one in particular that just keeps getting bigger and bigger everytime I see him. His guns must be 24 inches by now. :flame: I think everyone knows who I am referring to.
