What a game. NCC kept it close in the first half, but Highlands pulled away in the 2nd. McGraw had a heck of a game, as well as Simpson. I remember looking up when the score was 16-12 and thinking, McGraw has all of HHS's 16 points right now. Anyway, there was some sick passing in this game, Highlands seemed to wear NCC down. I have to say that I was suprised by NCC, they played some tough ball in that first half.

Fantastic. Great job Willie and boys. Keep it going. I couldn't be there but Henry said we played great.

How many did McGraw finish with?

McGraw lit it up and passed the ball well, but it seemed like the rest of Highlands offense was out of sync. In the first quarter, if not for McGraw (and I know that's a big if, but stay with me) Highlands doesn't score and they are outrebounded by a ridiculous margin. NCC had an awful lot of second, third and fourth chances early on, and just did not convert.

 

McGraw is a big time playmaker, and he was the man tonight, but I thought it was kind of an unfortunate matchup that Pangallo defended McGraw. Actually, I was surprised early on that Highlands didn't take more advantage of that matchup and post McGraw up - Grant Pangallo is a nice player, and he's got good years ahead of him, but it was asking too much of him to give up 7-8 inches and 50 pounds to one of the most athletic guys in NKY.

 

The final margin is indicative of a second half that got away from NCC. In the first half, I thought they were pretty even, the difference being McGraw. But Highlands didn't rebound the ball well, and I think that will spell problems against Holmes or CovCath.

Okay NCC has the best 3 point shooter in the region (subjective I know) and he doesn't play much after scoring in the high teens the first 20 something games and they run no double screens, fades, nothing for him...........I don't understand running an offense around a post player who is mediocre at best especially against a good team like Highlands. NCC needed points and really didn't use Lipscomb or Connor effectively at all......oh well

I honestly left early in the 4th period. I wasn't there to root for either team. I thought I'd see a good game. It was... until...WAY too many bad calls in succession took all the heart out of the game. These kids deserved better for all their hard work all season long than to have 'momentum swing games' being played by the judges. Did I just say that? Yes, I did. I've seen it many times before and I'm seeing it while rooting for no particular team. It was apparent that NCC was holding their own and even on an upswing with Libscomb back in the game, but nab him instantly with a terrible charging call and an awesome basket taken away in the process that led to ugly Bird missed walking calls left and right pushing the Birds to taking a 10 or so point lead to put it out of reach in a low scoring affair. Sure, Simpson and crew came out to play stronger in the 2nd half, but by the time all the blindness had subsided the damage was done. That's the vibe I got from the whole thing. Sorry to rain on anyone's parade. In an important game like this and mostly for the kids... as well as the 9th Region fans as a whole, they/we truly deserved better. :eek:

Yeah, the refs were all the difference in what was basically a 30 pt game. That takes the cake. Ha! Get it:laugh:

Ncc had no defenders and they bench there best scoring threat in exchange for what. Looks like the score could have been worse.

NCC will not make the region again for some time. The cubbard is empty. One guy is left and they sat him down.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the Breds just win the JV title? With 2-3 starters back and the JV guys moving up, I think the future looks pretty well. The cupboard is far from empty. Red Devils you need to face the fact that your kid/relative just wasn't good enough. NewCath got beat by a better team tonight and one that can definitely challenge Holmes. The Birds have the best backcourt in the region, if not of the top 5 in the State.

NCC coach's now have more time to plan there Family Reunion.

Red devil that is funny. Seriously though I think the NCC faithful would be looking for a little different style of play out of this group. The bigs inside are not very good compared to top teams bigs and thus should be setting screens.
