UK in the NIT?

Featured Replies

I'm sure you had plenty of time to soak in all that knowledge while not sleeping and listening to your crazy neighbor cry and throw things.

When it gets too bad I just drink enough to pass out...

Never a bad idea

Thats they way I live my life my man.

Uk is in the same boat as UC. They will need to go 4-1 in their last 5 and win atleast one SEC game to get in. Now if they can do that, with the schedule they have coming up, well then they deserve to get in.

If Neither UK or UC get in though, I wouldn't mind seeing them play in the NIT at Fifth Third. ;)

Sadly, I can't argue that claim...

It makes me look better ;)

By also losing to Gardner Webb and San Diego at home. If they get to 12-4 and don't win a game in the SEC Tournament, it will be interesting to see how the committee weighs the good against the bad...

I think they could get left out if they go 12-4 and don't win an SEC Tourney game. I think a 12-4 league finish and one Tourney win and they make it. The committee doesn't like to leapfrog teams from the same conference but you'd have to assume that if a 12-4 UK team lost in the first round of the SEC then some of the teams with better overall records but worse conference records would win and that might be enough for say a 10-6 team to leapfrog UK and make it. There's miles to go before UK needs to worry about that though, their 8-3 record doesn't mean anything yet.

If UK is in the NIT, you can almost bet they will be crossing paths with UC with a follow-up matchup with the Golden Gophers coming to Rupp.

I admit, that would be pretty interesting and good television.

Agree. The NIT will come up with any match ups to make more money.

Many of you are saying that if UK goes 4-1 for the rest of the season and then win 1 game in the SECT then they are in, that may be true.....However, there last 5 games are

Arkansas

Ole Miss

Tennessee

South Carolina

and Florida

It would be extremely hard for them to beat Tennessee at Tennessee and Florida at UK. not to mention Arkansas and South Carolina are solid teams as well. I hope as much as the next UK fan that they do get in, but it will be a well earned trip if they get it.

In my opinion the numbers that matter most for UK to make the NCAA is not their record or their SEC record, or the bad losses. What will help more than anything if they are on the bubble is the 15,000 fans that would travel to the south pole to see them play. The NCAA is a business that loves money and the bottom line is that UK brings the NCAA money.

People watch the NCAA tourney regardless, and almost all the tickets have already been sold. The NIT will like what UK brings to the gates.

As RP said, UKs absence will not hurt the NCAA tournament viewership or attendance but they sure as heck will boost the NIT in both areas.

If you are the NCAA, and you love money and you are letting that influence your selection decision (which I don't really believe) then consider this...

Which makes more money for the NCAA?

1. UK playing far away from home in the NCAA, for 1 or maybe 2 games at best.

2. UK playing at home in the NIT, 23000 strong and making a deep run (read: multiple paydays) in the tournament.

They took UF to OT in Florida. LSU beat Florida by 12 at Florida. This isn't Florida from the last two years.

I'm not saying it will be a cake game, but I wouldn't put them on the same level as UT. (who UK also beat).

You're correct in that there's not an easy game left. USC should be the easiest, but playing there won't be. However, the Cats have a decent shot at everyone but UT (and again, they've beat UT before, so thats not out of the question.)

Don't forget that it will be the final home game for Dave Odom at USC. Sets up as a trap game big time...

Yeah.. that one has me worried. The Cats really can't afford to lose that one.
